The conversations between the characters were poetic, the world is set very well written (and i hoped there would be more books or stories in this) and the current edition i read it's so good looking.
A light fantasy story to read during weekend or after you finished a trilogy, as a break~...more

Two magicians who were bound together to perform their abilities within a circus so a winner is declared. While the rest of the participants use illusions to act as if they're using magic the two protagonists try to make magic to look like illusions so nobody suspects anything.
What i loved is the characters. How important people of a talent such as Illusionists, ballerinas, circus producers and more were to many people and not only to those who are into this kind of job like today. And that by the time passing it fades away only to be memories and stories for the future generations.

I came up with this one accidentally (yes the purple cover attracted me) and the description of the book sounded interesting and I knew it would have hilarious moments.
The plot was very good except two things:
1. The random thirsty thoughts of the two characters, Evie and Trystan (the Villain) between them. I think the author used to write romance and such but it came to a point she would write something cringe for no reason to show they're into each other.
2. The other thing i didn't like for the plot was how easy some things seemed in the end. For example the Villain became that man just because the king put him into a jail. Couldn't be something more serious. Or when Evies father betrayed her out of the blue and even tried to "sell" her to someone to pass the nights together as if he never cared about his family and his children. I couldn't understand that. During the whole story he didn't show any sign of such a behaviour so i have no idea why the author had to use this character for the purposes you'll see in the book.
I enjoyed all the characters though, the world building and can't wait to read the next! I just hope she will fix the romance part and make the plot of some new characters more interesting and actually build a bridge to lead to the events...more

Before i give my review i would like to mention something. Several have said that it's similar with Game Of Thrones. That's not even close to these books. They talked about characters dying so easily, even those that are important or kings or lords and ladies but that's realism. It's not a fantasy one that will have actions above the borders. The characters are not like jugglers that will jump from here to there or avoid death effortless...
So, i might contain a couple of spoilers, sorry for that. As i said on a previous review, while i was reading it, my favorite character Jehal had the baddest luck but he rewared at the end and i'm happy about it. It doesn't end there. One of his enemies i know it will do such a grim think for his loved ones. There were dragon battles, a war that's not end yet and one more that will come and is going to be bruttal, i'm sure for it. The description of the terrain and the map around this world is not tiring, i liked it very much and gives a good taste of the world. Stephen Deas build it very well !!!
The dialogues were giving me suspence and the description of the battles a good point of view. Also i liked that when a chapter focus on a character we can see it from his point of view. For example he/she might see a first character that he's/she's important and their presence pass like they were not important at all. That's because they all don't know each other. So i was nervous if they will meet or what will happen. I hope i said that clear and didn't focuse you.
It contains everything you wish to see about dragons and battles and plots and betreyals. I can't wait to read the next one and what's coming up !!!...more

It has a small influence from Eragon ( i won't say cause i don't want to spoil anything yet ) and i mention Eragon since i don't know if it's a myth, a general myth, for dragons. If you read it you'll understand. Before i bought it i read a couple of descriptions. Some said that many die like Game of Thrones. That's not true. There are a couple of deaths at the begin and following the story some more but it's not even close to the ASOIAF series. However i liked the fact that each chapter has maximum four pages and that makes you feel way too comfortable and you can read even fifty pages in an afternoon.
The story is interesting, has mystery and you follow lot of characters. You will hate those that must be loved and love that must be hated and one more positive thing is that it doesn't say much for their past and it focus on the present. Yet, the dragons have a normal existence and by normal i mean realistic. They can be hurted and if you read the book's description they kept tamed by alchemists so the riders can lead them do what they want. Soon enough that will change and it's very interesting the way that happens. It happens on the right time, the right moment as we say. It's a very good book and can't wait to read the continue !...more

I just finished this book. Probably the best one so far !!!
Scott Lynch went on another level with this story. It had all what i would like to see, since the previous two ones. Our protagonists, Locke and Jea, finally Sabetha and of course flashbacks of the other memebers of Gentlemen Bastards ! It gives a damn good taste on what everyone was and what became. I felt hate and sympathy for Sabetha and i enjoyed the humor of Sanzas twins. However i was wondering that since the series are sevens books and already the three of them came out, what Locke and Jean would do. Going from scheme to scheme to make fortunes and build their names while something bad happens and they cancel it would be not that much interesting. Well, the author just gave a dark and grimm taste to the story. What dig into Locke ( the one magi who used his body ? ) made it very interesting and i'm still having chills from the scene with the artwork of Lamor Acanthus and the mention of him getting into Locke's body, like a spirit. So that gives us a brief idea of what might come next. Perhaps that ego will overrule Locke and he might harm someone close to him ? I don't know, i just want to read the next one which is coming a year, almost, from now and i hope it won't be delayed again !
PS: Now i want a book with the play " The Republic of Thieves " !!!...more

It wasn't boring, i just took a break from reading it. And i came after five months and read the other half i had too and... and... damn you Mark Lawrence, you have your way to make me tear up. The ending is something no one of us would expect and very nostalgic. Everyone says that they want more Jorg. I say no, leave it how it is, it's a damn good trilogy that i loved so far !...more

So if you want to read these series don't follow my review below XD But as far as i can say this books was really good. I liked it a lot. There are a coupel of negative things to say and that's why i'm giving 4/5 stars. First the author repeats again and again and again some things from the past. Like when the main character lost someone he keeps mentioning " He saw her face while she was dying '' all the time and things like these. Probably to show that he didn't get ahead of it. A second one was that this book could have more pages. Because there was something like a time-jump. There were seasons that told what the character was doing without many details, so it could go to the time that was important for the story ( at the end mostly ). We find out about that warlock and everyone character with their past and who's the relative to whom etc. It doesn't leave holes that we won't take answers. Perhaps the magic system might sound complicated. That's what i have to say, now bellow i will mention what i will really remember from this book for my entire life, that it had to happen from the Broken Empire trilogy of Mark Lawrence. . . . . . . . . . .
Each book from the trilogy is different. It starts like YA but ends, the third and last one, be more grimdark and i like it. The main character, Berren, from a young boy who wants to be a thieftaker and be good with sword ends to be king slayer, crown taker and bloody judger as they called him, after he killed too many on this book, two kings and innocent ones too. But at the end, when everything was finished the last thing we will read is something from an old friend of him. He says a goodbye to Berren with the words " Good luck to you, thieftaker's boy ". And that teared me up for sure. Because no matter what happened and no matter that his master ( Master Sy ) died thinking he did those bad things that happened, he will be always the thieftaker's apprentice and that gave such memories from the first book. He used to write and read, practice sometimes with swords and learn many things with his master. But now all these changed and that really got me. It was an emotional ending and a sad too. I really wish one day there will be a short story at least of what happened to him after the end. About the other character, master Sy, he died with such a sad way. But he fought back for it. I was hoping for a heroic death but i think all authors like things like this -_- Now i can't " swallow " the plot yet, i think i will need some days about it :'(
( i won't give more spoilers about it tho )....more

I remember when Berren and Master Sy were together and had an adventure that seemed to look abit in Young Adult style.
