I wasn’t sure I wanted to read more from Nicola Yoon, after Everything Everything. I had liked the main character, the writing was fine but the romance and the twist were straight up awful.
I still went into this book with an open mind plus I needed to read it before the movie comes out May 17, 2019! I don't like romance in books but I have no issues with it in movies. I should specify that I don't like insta love because there are romance books I do enjoy but this is absolutely an insta love romance.
I liked the first 40%. It was a cute YA Contemporary/Romance but then it became too much for me. At 70% I had straight up indigestion with all that cheesiness. What can I say, I'm lactose intolerant!
I struggled to finish it but I'll be watching the movie for sure!...more

Boring. Unmemorable.
You're following the story of a woman who's in an abusing relationship. Classic bait and switch. As soon as she gets married to him, she realizes he's a monster. However, even if the audiobook narrator did a great job, I just had troubling caring much about her or feeling like she didn't have opportunities to get out of there...

I LOVED Dark Matter and Wayward Pines. Heck I'm always raving about them. I even decided to read as many Blake Crouch's books as I can get my hands on. However this was a big let down for me. I didn't really care for the stories (the first one was the best out of the three), didn't really care about the characters and wasn't surprised by the twists.
I'll watch the TV series and update you on it!...more

Unmemorable. Another YA fantasy with fairies and humans, clichés and cringe romance similar to all the other fantasy/dystopian books that have been coming out. I don't understand the hype because there was nothing I found good in here. There wasn't anything horrible either which leaves me with a "meh" review.
Won't continue the series. Don't recommend it....more
A book following astronauts getting ready to go to Mars sounds awesome right? Well this book manages to make it boring... Nothing happened... at all...

Pretty much from the beginning, I wasn’t too thrilled about this book. The main character is just so bland.
Poor orphan girl who becomes the chosen one for a talent that feels like she got overnight. We're never told how she actually got great at hacking. She basically unfocuses her eyes and things stand out to her... Maybe I'm bitter because I was never able to do that with the Garfield book I had! But *gaps* she has a record!! For doing a nice thing… Does it mean she's not like other girls? Let's be real, giving her rainbow hair won’t hide how bland she is.
But the last drop for me was when the romance that started. I get it, he's her idol that makes sense but he has no reason to be into her. When the interactions started being cringy I just decided to DNF the whole thing.
Life's too short for cringy YA romance book with a predictable plot. It had potential but... no. Just no....more

I loved reading about the family going every summer to their island and spend time together.
Everything else ended up falling short for me. I couldn't connect to the writing which ruined the book for me. You could see the ending coming...

I was so exciteA new book from Andy Weir? Happening on the moon? A heist where the main character survives with her scientific knowledge? COUNT ME IN!!
I was so excited for this book but I didn't end up loving nearly as much as The Martian.
Even though I liked the overall idea, I didn't like the characters and the constant jokes and insults felt incredibly forced.
The main character Jazz, a 26 years old woman, was talking and thinking like a cringy 15 years old boy. She mentions a few times her appearance and sexuality in an unnatural way. I don't understand why men authors struggle so hard to write female characters.
At one point, she stays the night at a friend's house and after showering she wears one of his shirts. He comes back and, him being awkward with women, simply stares at her not knowing what to say. She thinks to herself "I was pretty sexy I have to admit"... really?
Most characters had cringy moments like this and it ruined the book for me.
I'm still not sure how to review the ending so I'll have to sleep on it and come back for an update!
UPDATE: After thinking about it, I wanted to add that it was interesting to read about the heist with the scientific knowledge thrown in there but it wasn't enough to make this book a must-read. It didn't live up to my expectations!
UPDATE 2: The more I think about it the more disappointed and angry I am so I'm reducing it to 2 stars!
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I never thought I would read this book, let alone finish it but it happened.
Is it great literature? No. But it also doesn't claim to be. You'll probably roll your eyes a lot, the love triangle is pointless but I did read the whole trilogy so...

Let's start with the positive... I enjoyed following a main character struggling to adapt to the changes on Earth while he's at war. 2 years for him end up being 26 on Earth due to time relativity. It only gets worst as the war progresses.
The rest was a mess for me. This book is often mentioned as a "classic sci-fi" and is on so many "best sci-fi of all time" lists... To me a classic has to survive the test of time and this book did not age well. Like at all.
I understand that some parts of the book are there to show us that the main character is "old fashioned" compare to others but oh my was this a frustrating read...
...then unleashed Stargate's eighteen sex-starved men on our women, compliant and promiscuous by military custom (and law), but desiring nothing so much as sleep...
I... What?...
I'd gotten used to open female homosex in the months since we'd left Earth. Even stopped resenting the loss of potential partners. The men together still gave me a chill, though.
Of course...
These are just two quotes out of a dozen other ones I could include. The writing style wasn't for me and I didn't care about the characters at all. In its defence, I'm not big on military fiction so the battles bored me but I expected that. I just can never get over how little I care about people dying left and right. I'm not sure if the ending was supposed to be a twist or a deep moral of the story but it was kinda obvious and pretty much already how things seem to be nowadays.
This is officially the most boring book I've read this year.

Also I find that while reading some non fiction you have to like the author to a certain extent and I just couldn't here. One moment during the book she writes about how she tried to visit a certain location and asked the lady working at the gift shop to give her a tour. The employee obviously told her she was busy and I couldn't help but resent the author for being salty about it as she wrote that "as far as she could tell they were the only ones there". Like come on.
