Yeah, baby! This was a perfect ending to the series. Full review later(probably after Easter).

4 not so solid stars. Feels more like 3.5 stars but because I do love the series, I'm rounding up to 4!

A Perfect Blood started out slow with an old-school Hollows investigation and Rachel being very introspective about the events of the last book attempting to live her life without ley line magic. There was a lot of running around and actually not much happening. Unfortunately this part emphasizes Rachel's tendency to be whiny and miserable about whatever circumstances she's in.
Somewhere along the way Trent became an active participant in the story and these parts I like a lot! I loved the Trent and Rachel interaction during the story. Their relationship has reached a whole new level and that's the thing that saves the book for me! I loved all Trent scenes, the scenes with Al too. Damn, I love all the demons and they were almost nonexistent in this book! Hopefully the title of the next book Ever After promises a lot in the demon department!...more

I skipped and skimmed some parts because of complex reasons but I do intend to take my time and truly absorb all the information sometime in the future. It would be a perfect adjustment in a re-read of The Hollows series.
For a series guide, The Hollows Insider is pretty good. Kim Harrison gives us not only a bunch of dry facts but an actual story. Told from the POV of an investigative journalist named Devin Crossman, the book is a collection of notes from his personal journal, his newspaper column in, memos from Kalamack Industries from/to Trent, Quen and Johnathan, excerpts from various magic textbooks, recipes and journals, profiles from the Were Register, graphics, maps, song lyrics from Takata and more. Devin works for the local Inderlander paper and his goal is to expose Rachel but he's not having an easy time of it. It's particularly funny because while Devin gets some of his facts right, he's quite obviously way off on many things, particularly regarding Rachel's character and goals and her relationship with Trent. I was impressed just how much work Trent has put out to keep Rachel's ass out of danger. The man was running around cleaning up her messes and we never knew it!
The Hollows Insider is extremely in-depth, informative and fun read. I recommend it to anyone who considers himself a fan of the series. ...more
