The story has potential and it's sweet and clean, but the main protagonist is a bit of a Debbie Downer to be honest. I really didn't enjoy reading about her although I liked other characters in the books, such as her new friend Serena and her quasi-little sister, Claudette. That said, I am in no hurry to read more of these books. In fact, this one ended in such a way that another book (and another, there are like 6 more) seems unnecessary. I did like the idea of an old diary giving inspiration for new, modern adventures though. I recommend this read to young girls about 10-12 years of age....more

I liked this book, especially because the hero of the story sounded like such a sexy beast! I loved his naughty side and his sense of humor and his total devotion to the heroine from the word GO. It was a good read although the lack of breaks between scene changes was a bit jarring to me. I am considering reading the next book in the series, eventually....more

TI actually read the prequel to this story, Learning to Ride, and liked it a lot better. The characters were more interesting and far more relatable. The heroine in this story was so insecure, foolish and petty at times. And the hero wasn't exactly a hero. He had cheated on the heroine at one point which basically makes me cringe. How is that a romance novel exactly?
This book definitely wasn't a keeper and I am glad I got it when it was free on Amazon. I give it 2.5 stars, rounded up....more

I thought it was well-written and action-packed, though the continuous use of the name "Rosedale" instead of "Rosewood" (the true setting of PLL!) was disconcerting. The writer hints at the end that there could be a sequel someday but I don't know if we'll ever get to read it. It's been a longtime since this was published, but I do hope we do get a sequel someday because this story left us with several big cliffhangers.
I would be interested in reading more books by Ms. Thompson....more

There is a lot of violence in it and I'd say strong language, but that term doesn't begin to cover it. This is for mature readers, without a doubt. It's a high-octane thriller and it kept me turning the virtual pages but I can't say that I honestly loved it. I am not sure I even really liked it. Things just seemed a little far-fetched at times -- like how one of the evil guys escaped certain death it seemed about fifty times. Also, I didn't like how Cruz's friend and possible love interest Sandra turned out to be such a damsel in distress. She talked a big game but when push came to shove, she literally cowered in a corner.
The weirdest thing is that it was a police officer named Martinez who was the main hero of the novel - not Cruz, who the book is supposed to be about. I think Martinez made a solid protagonist so perhaps they should have named the series after him.
I did really like how the author acknowledges victims of police brutality but also gives a shout out to the good officers out there doing the right thing.
Overall, I give this three stars. I do plan to read the next book in the saga, just to see what becomes of the big baddies....more
