I guess that was the part that made it more forgiving?
At any rate...despite this personal battle in my mind given this knowledge of the book's main theme...it was definitely a fun ride!
The hero, Lachlain:
Is Scottish...which you can immediately tell from the author's many uses of "doona" s and "ken"s within his dialogue, and also one of the last remaining Lykae AKA werewolves...though don't call him that because apparently the lore is just all completely wrong about them! I actually LIKE the lore of them turning into an actual wolf and not something that more sounded like the hybrid from Underworld: [image]
But he's been asleep for hundreds of years and in search of a mate, who of course happens to be our heroine. After all these years she finally comes about and then she happens to be from the species of his arch nemesis, the vampires! Dun, dun, dun!
Our heroine, Emmaline: [image]
Which I imagine having that face, for most of the story. She was a little whiny for my taste but at least she ends up kicking some arse on occasion through the story. So Emma is a vampire but she also happens to be from the Valkyrie line, which is different and cool and makes for some interesting developments!
Creepy forcefulness on the hero's part all aside, their relationship was dare I say it a bit...sweet? They truly start to care for each other after Emma gets over the whole, I am going to be forced into this no matter what aspect. Honestly, she had the hots for him the moment she laid eyes on him so the feeling of, "I found my mate." seemed to run strong on BOTH sides of the coin.
It is just a really fun book, with a unique love story and supernatural glee and the parts where Emma feeds off Lachlain are pretty freaking hot!
OK - this is one of those either hate or love it books, I feel and I honestly LOVED it which seems to be on the less popular variety judging from the OK - this is one of those either hate or love it books, I feel and I honestly LOVED it which seems to be on the less popular variety judging from the reviews, but hear me out! Ok so when the book starts - it kind of shocked me, especially since I started reading it on a plane - I was like, "Oh boy it is going to be THIS kind of book? Great." Turns out, the start of the book made it different from all others and I was in for a ride!
Our heroine, Lily: [image]
Is with the New York ballet (LOVED this aspect as I did ballet for 16 years and always love dipping back into that lifestyle now and again). She is a fun character, but she is hung up on this dude Blane, whom she has dreamt of nailing for a long time and he is surprise, surprise a total douchebag. Lily gets SO wrapped up in this guy she has blinders on, but all of her friends can see it and hope she can figure it out on her own.
Especially our Hero, West: [image] Who is known for his man-bun sporting, flannel wearing hipster style. I have to admit, novels don't have a lot of this and I don't mind picturing it in my mind one bit! I love me some beards especially, needs to be more representation of this! He is a sweetheart! As sweet as he is though, I find it hard to believe that he could hang out with Lily for YEARS and never once get a woody or something around here with the way they cuddled on the couch and all that jazz...anyway, that is why this book didn't get a full five star rating from me. I had to put aside these "THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN" moments that kept approaching my brain and just ENJOY the ride.

There will be moments that will make you want to slap both Lily and West, and then slap them both at the same time but there is some very sweet and very funny moments in this book that I can't NOT recommend a try for this one! If you love ballet centered stories especially, this is a MUST must read.

It was just NOT up to the standards I built up for this author and to be quite honest was boring for me, most of the time. I had high hopes, especially given the golden reviews it got in general!

I usually also cast characters in my head and just could not get a clear picture for either of these characters which made my enjoyment of reading it also a bit lacking. I wanted SO much to love this book, it had the potential to be action packed, sexy, and tons of witty repartee!

I gave it three stars because there were moments where it WAS cute and adorable or deliciously steamy, but would have rated it two stars if it would have been lacking these elements as well. The plot revolving around the US Attorney being witness to a murder and the FBI Agent aside to her witness protection being our Hero...the sub-plot that occurs because of their two main characters previous involvement with the other...is just not entertaining, I don't know, this one just didn't resonate with me.

Hate to love, a slow burn (that seems like a fast one at first), mystery, adventure, great dialogue, swoon worthy alpha Hero, EVERYTHING!
Ok whew...now to the details...I can't say TOO much about the plot without giving some juicy details away but we have CIA agent Nick Andris:
This guy, right here is just a great, well rounded Hero character. He's pure alpha male but not a complete jerk, but still has enough dirt and grime to him that doesn't make him a complete push over either. Comes across as completely respectable and a man who is out to get the job done. He's been assigned to spy on the heroine, Holly Bradshaw:
She is as equally respectable as Nick, in that she is a well rounded heroine character that is strong, smart and doesn't use her sensuality and good looks for the wrong reasons. She still maintains that sensuality while remaining respectable and just completely bad ass. LOVED her and loved her and Nick together, they just made complete sense and meshed so well together even when they weren't meshing!

This book will make you laugh, make you teary eyed, make you bite your cuticles even at certain points and I guarantee you will absolutely swoon over Nick Andris and his steamy Russian self! If you like stories that involve federal agents taking custody of one or the other and a romance blossoming from it - TOTALLY the story for you my friend!
