This centers around an airline pilot who meets a woman in an airport who has decided to take a random trip to where - she knows not. I'll tell you, I wish I had the money to do something like this! Just randomly buying an airline ticket to an international destination only mere hours before it takes off?! That...is amazing and a fantasy, but that's what we read books for right?
The airline pilot, Carter Clines (listened to this on audiobook, btw and the man who did his narration I wish would do more, such a nice baritone he has!): [image] Carter is the cliche pilot and where the title of this book spawns from in that he has spawned a ridicule towards serious relationships due to his past and whores himself with the readily available flight attendants on his flights. That is...until he meets...
Our heroine, Kendall Sparks: [image] I liked Kendall AKA "Perky" (you'll figure that out once you read), she was spunky and met Carter's banter, though her choice to completely just follow him to a foreign destination having just met him hours prior MAY have been a bit well..dumb on her part, if she wouldn't have taken this leap of faith, there wouldn't be a book. I'll excuse it for that purpose!
These two go on a romantic romp through various countries together, gradually falling in love, crazy times and locations including Rio, Dubai and all kinds of good stuff.

I can't say a whole lot plot wise or the reasons why I loved the story progression and the ending as to not give away the story, but I've read a lot of rom com novels and this one actually has some differences, so it was refreshing!

The writing is done very well and I wouldn't expect much less from the writing talents of Ward and Keeland as when these two get together they create wondrous music. Funny, sweet, and schmexy just like I like them! Only reason this got 4 instead of 5 is due to the fact that I wish it would've been a bit of a slower burn...they seemed to fall a little too hard and fast for my taste.
Going to put this out there right now...this book is heroine POV in FIRST PERSON. Ok you were warned. Its rare and it was a bit weird for a bit but I Going to put this out there right now...this book is heroine POV in FIRST PERSON. Ok you were warned. OKAY now...onto the good stuff. This is a delicious slow burn hate transformed into love stories also mixed with fated lovers which is another trope that I absolutely love. The heroine is delightfully strong, witty, and extremely bad ass with her magic sucking powers! Reminded me a bit of Rogue of X-Men as she can absorb the magic of others and use it until it wears off.
So she's important and Griffin our warlord Hero, needs her importance and kidnaps her. Okay she's so powerful why doesn't she just run off? BECAUSE there's a magic rope that can only be untied by the owner...Griffin...PERFECT! Makes for the perfect formula and his merry band of fellow warlords are just as delightful to experience - it is a well rounded, fun crew!

Magic, Action, Romance...I wish there were more of these out there that were not bodice rippers honestly. I LOVE these mixes.

Now the not so bad/slight annoying:
Cat's inner monologue gets a little adolescent and also repetitive at times. It is rare so it wasn't enough to make me hate the book, but putting it out there.

The build up to Cat/Griffin is SO well done that the first 70% of the book was just amazing. But then the last 30% of the book wasn't as strong to me and aspects of their relationship felt very forced. It was enough that I am not rushing to read the second one straight away. I WILL I DO love the characters and story enough to read the whole trilogy but I'm not blowing down doors to get to the second one...all I'm saying.

Oh and...(view spoiler)[ Griffin's male love juices are referred to as his "lifeforce" and have magical healing powers for Cat...I found this really...weird? (hide spoiler)]
So I have to review this book for what it is...at about 70 pages this book was obviously a short story for sure and it did its purpose...it was meant So I have to review this book for what it is...at about 70 pages this book was obviously a short story for sure and it did its purpose...it was meant to be an erotic short story about a Viking claiming a woman he wanted as his own. Honestly, you could have put ANY type of character in place of this Viking and it would have been the same. That is my only gripe...yes there were mentions of Odin and pointed hats, etc. etc. but I hoped for a bit more of the Viking culture. No I didn't want him forcing her against her will but a Viking worried about bathing her in scented oils and all that jazz? Don't think so, just saying!
I enjoyed it for what it was! Some well written smutty smut with a Viking undertone!...more

I am honestly conflicted as to how I truly feel about this book. On the one hand I LOVED the writing of this book. McNaught is obviously a talented author who has an eloquent way with words. On the other hand, the characters personalities and the actions/responses to events occurring.
This book has elements of kidnapping, forced/tricked into sexual relations, borderline abuse and that is why it is confusing because yes, this is set in a different time where these actions weren't as taboo as they are in modern times, but when I am reading a novel I am doing it to escape so, to do these actions left me with a bad taste in my mouth several times.
I LOVE me an alpha male, but I can't appreciate one like Royce behaved often times in this book despite the apologies and such it just isn't enough. I can't reveal these actions without giving away plot points but just be aware they are there.
I also love an enemies to lovers trope BUT in this book the term "enemies" is quite literal. We all know that most of the time its two people that can't stand each other in an almost comical way but they aren't actually "abusive" or more extreme and that is what makes it fun.
There are some very sweet and touching moments if you can get past these other factors and the writing is so well done I can certainly see why this book has such a high rating. I may have liked this book more when I was younger as I read more books of this nature but my tastes have evolved into other things. It is still a very well written book and it just really boils down to your tastes and tolerances!
