1. There is questionable actions in the beginning of this book which somO....M....G. LOVED this book! [image]
Let's get 2 things out of the way first...
1. There is questionable actions in the beginning of this book which some may find uncomfortable or downright distasteful...bare in mind this book revolves around a band of savages.
2. Have you seen Game of Thrones? Are you aware of Khal Drogo and Khaleesi? This book is VERY similar, it is impossible to not think of these two while reading this book.
With that being said...even THOUGH this will consistently remind you of your favorite Mother of Dragons and Dothraki King, trust me you will NOT CARE.

And here is why...this book gives us MORE of the same style that we came to grow and love from these two types of characters, its like a glorified extremely well written fan fiction with a paranormal twist!
The story revolves around contemporary woman Circe, who goes to sleep in modern day Seattle and wakes up in another universe amidst a land of savages. She awakes in a pen of women who are getting ready to participate in, "the hunt" where Korwahk warriors "claim" their brides. Reference #1 as the "questionable actions" I spoke of and I am sure you can put two and two together.
Here's the thing though...despite these actions Kristen Ashley still manages to create an amazing story where I could see past it. Not to mention that these people are a band of savages, absolutely no different from Vikings, the British Red Coats, Pirates, or any other band of looters, marauders, etc. To not have certain things occur would be sugar coating the way they actually were. I can accept it.

There is also the small matter of Dax Lahn...what a complex, masculine, yet uniquely affectionate hunk of a warrior!

Does Lahn do some mean, fudged up things? -Sure Is he cutthroat, stoic, and a brute? - uhh...yeah he's a savage warrior god!
But his actions, the fact he's a fearless leader and loyal to his people, and the things he says...oh dear lord the WORDS this man says...
“So if she gave you your eyes, my golden doe, I can see your father mourning your mother long after her death. If you share your spirit with someone, their hold on you will never fade away.”
You WILL be on an emotional rollercoaster with Lahn and how you feel towards him, but hold onto that steel bar, enjoy the inclines and declines and trust me when I say you are in for a FABULOUS ride.
Circe is also a wonderfully written character with wit, passion, humor, and still manages to maintain her ground as a strong woman despite this world consistently trying to drag her down. Through out the book she has continued inner monologues with herself which are the bits of comic relief you come to find in the book between the oodles of steamy scenes, shocking events, sad times, and sweet words...a bit of comic relief is appreciated.
I missed my scary, savage brute, king of a marauding horde in another universe husband.
For romance enthusiasts and fans of Game of Thrones this is a MUST read...IF aforementioned actions is something you can get past given the savage world. I can't speak highly enough of this book and I'm STILL grinning like an idiot over here while being tempted to skim through, and read my favorite scenes again. So what are you doing still sitting here? GO GET THIS BOOK AND READ!
“‘Out there, King Lahn is a fierce warrior but in here, my Lahn…kah Lahn is sweet,’” she recited.

We're talking about fantasy dreams that in essence are ACTUALLY happening. So we have Varrik, the brooding assassin warrior type who's intentions start out as a means to basically impregnate a woman who is going to bear him a strong, awesome heir.
So he kidnaps royal twins E'lanna and Echo who both have some form of mystical powers about them which he figures, HEY that'd be pretty sweet to pass onto my bad-ass warrior spawn. He sets his eyes on Echo specifically whom he assumes is "pure" given he saw her sister making out previously with some dude. I realize this all sounds a little crazy, and sure maybe it is BUT somehow...someway his intentions become a lot less barbaric then how they first start out and the fact he's more worried about her actually ENJOYING herself during this "process" makes it more enjoyable.

So why the 3 star rating? With the low page count, the story does seem incredibly rushed and a little all over the place. This is a completely NEW world and I found myself getting confused about the Elders, the Mystics ,the Shadowrealm, just a lot of elements that needed a better explanation, though that may not have been the main goal with this novel but rather an encompassing package. If you have a Kindle its definitely worth a look if you like this kind of story though! :)
