Story
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

It was just ok
Reviewed: 07-04-24
I really struggled for this story to keep my intention. I wasn't vested in the characters, so didn't really care what happened to them. Characters weren't well developed. Story was just ok. Nothing that stood out on this one.

Interesting twists at the end
Reviewed: 06-29-24
While a little of this story I guessed, there were some twists I did not see coming. Part medical thriller, part police procedural, part mystery. A few points in the story weren't very believable (nobody on the medical staff knows the coma patient is pregnant), bot overall it was an interesting story. Characters weren't well developed and writing was a little choppy, but entertaining.

Story
The phrase "you are what you eat" is taken to heart; these are stories of men facing strange appetites within their own physicality, within a lover or, perhaps, a stranger's hungers. A young athlete attends an exclusive wrestling camp, but some of the campers are more focused on the unwelcome boys they claim lurk inside their bellies. A fixit man on a mission to retrieve a runaway finds himself forced into impersonating a pulp hero by her captor.

These stories just weren't for me. The narrator's voice was a bit bland. Others may enjoy listening. Didn't realize it was LGBTQ.

Story
Join LP Hernandez on an exploration of the terrain of haunted worlds and the souls of haunted people. A man becomes so detached from this world that he is claimed by another. An astronaut picks the worst possible time to leave Earth. A man for whom eternity is just the beginning. These stories present mankind at its most vulnerable. These are stories of triumph and of succumbing, of the dying and those already dead.

Story
There have always been deaths in the small town of Eriston over the years - more than can easily be explained. People dying in their houses, behind locked doors. Sean Cole thought he'd spotted a pattern. Thought he was on the trail of a killer. Now he's dead, too. When his daughter, Rebecca, returns to the town, she realises that her father might have been onto something. But can she find the murderer before he finds her? Because if she can't, her father's shabby old Victorian house is no place to hide.

Great premise and description but not so great book. It started off creepy and I wished it had stayed that way. Instead it seemed to get bogged down in the middle and ended in a lackluster way. Most of the characters were developed, especially Rebecca. Not many likable characters in it though. Parts of the premise for the book (killer getting away with it and others being jailed for the killer's crimes) just wasn't believable. Maybe once or twice, but 11 times.....really??? How is it Rebecca could ask a couple of people some questions and figure out who was guilty when nobody else could for 2 decades? Again, I wish it had more creepy and less unrealistic quality to the story.

Lots of characters and moving parts to the story
Reviewed: 06-24-24
What's the value of a human's life? A character in this book certainly tries to put a price on just that situation. This story was told from several points of view and bounced from 3 months in the past to present. Amazing how one moment in time can change the lives of so many. Sometimes it got a little confusing on which character was talking. The fact that one of the people involved in the fallout of the accident could figure out what was going on long before the police, was a bit out there. Some characters were better developed than others. It's a sad reminder that some people try to solve all their problems with money.

Great twist
Reviewed: 06-22-24
Although this book started off pretty slow, it certainly picked up speed by the end. What a twist at the end too! I definitely didn't see that one coming. A simple story about 2 girls who go missing. One escapes and is found but the other one isn't found. Seems like a simple case of finding out what happened, but the story becomes much more. Well developed characters, lots of mystery, some surprises and more. Goes to show you never really know someone like you think you do. Well written and kept me wanting to find out who was behind the crimes. Good narrator too.

Bates Motel meets Desperate Housewives
Reviewed: 06-17-24
At first I wasn't sure what to think about this story. It's told from the viewpoint of 4 characters and could get a little confusing at times. I liked that it started in the present, but then gave some back story with the characters. Complex character development and yet understandable. At times I felt like I was reading the Bates Motel and other times it felt more like Desperate Housewives. What an interesting book. Didn't see that flip ending coming and that shows how well it was written. Entertaining, enjoyable and worth the listen.
