When the rules turn deadly, winning is everything. Only available from Audible, a gripping psychological thriller from the author of Silent Child, Saving April, and The Broken Ones. Perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn, Lisa Jewell and Paula Hawkins. The perfect couple. The perfect marriage. The perfect game. Effie and Ben May have everything. Success. Beauty. Glamour. But beneath the charming smiles and expensive clothes, a twisted game is in progress. A game for which only they know the rules.

Hats off to the author and the narrators - Billie Piper is perfect as Effie. This was such a great ride, I really enjoyed the pace and the mystery and the twist. Something classic and a little bit familiar. It made for an excellent breather between more serious and complex reads, and my husband loved it too.

Story
It was supposed to be fun. A relaxing trip to a remote mountain retreat where there’s no phone reception. Three couples, friends since high school, are looking forward to a weekend of drinking, reminiscing and flirting. When someone suggests swapping partners, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. The lights will be switched off, for privacy. It’s not really cheating if you don’t know who you were with, right? But when the lights come back on, one of the men is dead. No-one can agree who was in which bedroom with whom.

Picture this - I’m ready to win back the love of my life, and I’m going big this time. We’re talking boom box, sing her name in the rain, let the whole damn neighborhood know I'm good and ready this time around. After all, if you're going to grand gesture the ever-loving hell out of a second chance, you need to pull out all the stops. There’s only one little problem. My college girlfriend isn't the one who shows up when I play my "I'll do anything to win you back" tune. The woman who flings open the second-floor window tells me my ex doesn’t live here anymore.

Such a fun tale!

Think of every movie trope you know, all of the grand gestures from film & TV, and put them together into a real romance that is aware of the irony of said tropes… that’s what this book is about. Tongue in cheek and full of funny banter, I got a real kick out of this one. It’s very short so easy to finish in a day. I liked that the author didn’t try and stretch it out to 9 hours with a repetitive inner monologue - it was just the perfect amount, and that is something I rarely see these days. Good editing.
Adore the MC’s. Beautiful ending. Narrators nailed it.

Buckhead isn’t a place you live, it’s a place you survive. And that applies even to the wealthy housewives that have it all. Fancy cars, designer clothes, and daily salon appointments aren’t nearly enough to keep them fulfilled and happy. Because in this town, privilege and opulence go hand in hand with betrayal and revenge. Jenny, the owner of Glow, an exclusive membership-only beauty salon, knows that better than anyone, because she knows everything about these housewives—down to each individual strand of hair.

A fun jaunt, reminds me of Days Of Our Lives or Dynasty! Dialogue heavy, some scenes got a little repetitive for me, but it was all par for the course in this great who-dunnit. I had my suspicions and many were confirmed, but there was still a surprise at the end! Recommend for those days where you don’t want anything too serious or heavy - I had just come off a fantasy romance binge and this tale was refreshing in its simplicity.

Just lovely. I enjoyed every moment of this and Paladins Grace - as a 35yo woman, the absence of a petulant tantrum throwing juvenile FMC or cruel, despondent, aggressive MMC was *chefs kiss*. Truly a unique tale and wonderful love story. I have so much respect for all of the characters. A breath of fresh air in a world of infantile fantasy.

On Zero Day of the first and last cyberwar in human history, the internet went dark, transport and power grids collapsed and cities began to starve, showing just how vulnerable the world could be to a targeted campaign of online sabotage. This final installment of this prescient epic of civilisation collapse finds the small ragtag band of survivors come together to face a new, but eerily familiar threat - the rise of a fascist militia among the ruins of a failing country.

Incredible characters and plotline
Reviewed: 13-06-2023
Honestly, there’s a few characters to remember and the switchback between them is often - but you get used to it. Incredible narration by Degas - somebody, give that man an award! - he is masterful and captures the characters in a way that makes you even love the ‘villian’.
Plot line was well paced, I was in wonder the whole way through and felt like I was a part of the crew, the characters are that well delivered. Every moment felt vital. No leg of any journey disappointed.
My one gripe? The ending was surprisingly skimped on, I felt a bit bereft when I realised I only had 3 minutes to go and the crescendo had just happened. The build up and actual peak themselves were unreal, with gripping high action detail and tense, precise turns of the screw - but then you get this unsatisfying, teensy sliver of unofficial epilogue.
Perhaps that was by design and John knows what he’s doing? I’ll be rereading this series forever.

Every modern city has one week’s worth of food to feed itself. Then it will collapse. Cut off the resources to New York, Sydney, or even a mid-size metropolis, and millions will soon starve. In Zero Day Code we see those immense and open, hyper-complex, networked supercities of the new millennium die. And in the last moments we see their vengeance take form as all the best and worst traits of humanity bubble to the surface.

The accents are perfect, each character clearly different - made for a superb performance and seamless storyline integration. Yes, there are a couple of stories happening at the same time here, but by the end our main characters start to meet up and so I just know that the next 2 books are going to be fantastic. Jumping in right now, can’t wait! My partner is also listening along and is totally engrossed now. 10/10
