Summary

For decades, Sandra Brown’s life has been intertwined with someone she has never met: an eleven year-old girl named Moira Anderson – who disappeared from their hometown of Coatbridge, Scotland, in 1957. It became one of the oldest cold cases in Scottish history.

Sandra lived just around the corner from Moira. She grew up hearing about the missing girl, whose memory haunted the town. But she never imagined that, one day, she would be the one trying to uncover what happened. Or that her search for answers would reveal secrets and lies so close to home.

In her own words, Sandra tells the full story, of a lifetime spent confronting doubt and resistance. Can she break the silence and find the truth? And how much pain will it cause?

Gripping

Such a fascinating account. Very well narrated, almost dramatised. I found it hard to put down.

Poignant

Such a well written, respectful account of a tragedy, I felt she gave Moira a voice.

Close to home

I enjoyed the narration, the chapters were well bookended easy to follow along and comfortable to listen to. dislikes the end is not as conclusive as I would like but that is not a dig against the story or the real events I just wish they found the body.

5 star

Very interesting to hear this also very sad that this is real life and it happened to a child and so little was done at the time - excellent narrative given the harrowing subject. Here’s hoping that one day Moira Anderson can be laid to rest.

Extraordinary investigation and story

This is an incredibly well written and interesting case. Every time I thought we had reached a natural end there was something new. Very sad case too.

So moving

I have read alot of thrillers and mystery books and its also unbelievable that this is a true story. Sandra’s dedication to uncovering the truth is remarkable. We need more people to stand for the vulnerable and not let uncomfortable topics be ignored. A very insightful story delivered with true feeling and determination

Amazing lady

A very sad story about a very young girl who is still lost and an amazing lady who has gone above and beyond to try and get to the bottom of it and put things right. She is to be applauded.

I am from Coatbridge!

I was born in 1952, so grew up knowing about Moira Anderson. Her story was very well told. We used to play in Dunbeth Park, and could visualise where the co op was, and other places mentioned. Sad but compelling read! Took me back to my childhood!
