It seems like the perfect job. Great wages, accommodation provided and all located within the walls of Highwood Hall, a stunning stately home owned by the Howard family. Not many little girls dream of becoming a maid, but this is an opportunity for me to get back on my feet. And for me to revisit my past....

So boring!
Reviewed: 04-04-23
Half of this book is so corny and romantically soppy and the other half just plain depressing. What’s more I just didn’t believe it. Decided to return it at the point she said I love u after knowing him for 24 hours. I found it was so boring. Totally unlike all her other books. The male narrators voice was annoying too. Her other books are well written and gripping, not sure what happened with this one.

The voice so wasn’t right for the character! Sounded like an elderly woman and having already read this story and loved it, I was so disappointed and found it hard to listen to. Nothing wrong with the narrator, her voice is lovely, but just not believable for Watermelon!

I devoured this book!

And now I’m in mourning for the characters, I miss them! Which is always how Marion Keyes novels make me feel. I was nervous that Marion was narrating this book herself, after reading the reviews and when I first started to listen to it, I panicked! We are used to listening to clipped, clear tones reading us our audio books, so when we hear that Irish Lilt and all the names she throws at us in the first chapter, we panick, but a couple of chapters in I realised that only Marion could narrate a Marion book and I am so glad she did! Bare with it, you will get to know all the charters, Marion will bring them alive, it’s what she does best...No it hasn’t got a massive plot twist and No ones dramatically gets murdered but this book had me literally laughing out loud, while on my own...and who does that really? But I was, and I loved the story and the realmess of the characters and how relatable they are and the story lines. This book had me sneaking off to listen to it...taking extra long baths and laughing with delight! I adore you Marion. Ps. I hardly write reviews, but I had to for this book.

Story
I'm a 64-year-old retired lawyer and former Assistant Attorney General with an unusual story to tell. Every word of it is true. It happened in a state park known as Devil's Den. For fear of losing my job and damaging my reputation in the legal community, I never spoke about the incident. If it hadn't happened to me, I'd be skeptical too. In 1977, I was an active duty NCO in the USAF. A friend and I planned a two-night camping trip to explore the wilderness. We drove deep into the forest until we came to a high plateau. There on the horizon sat a perfect triangle of three very bright stars....
