Clem knows every inch of Watersmeet like the back of his hand. After all, he’s controlled crime here for most of his career. But after a shock murder, he meets jaundiced yellow eyes shining out of the darkness beyond the houses on the village’s eerie southern slopes, and everything he thought he knew about the place is thrown into question. Clem’s grown up with local legends, just like everyone else. But could the River Man be real, and might this creature be behind the recent mysterious killings?

Story
Our economy has tanked, our freedoms are shrinking, and social divisions are growing. Our politicians seem most interested in their own careers, and much of the media only make things worse. We are living in a country almost unrecognisable from the one that existed a decade ago. But whose fault is it really? Who broke Britain and how did they do it?

Excellent - clear and incisive - follows the sometimes intricate and sometimes barely disguised networks that allow the truly unexceptional that have graced UK politics for the past 13 years to flourish - beware the critics that will generally bemoan this account without actually pinpointing offending content - they are the puppets and enablers that JOB highlights in this entertaining book that have helped heap manure on this once fine land.

Story
The setting is the Georgia wilderness, where the state's most remote white-water river awaits. In the thundering froth of that river, in its echoing stone canyons, four men on a canoe trip discover a freedom and exhilaration beyond compare. And then, in a moment of horror, the adventure turns into a struggle for survival as one man becomes a human hunter who is offered his own harrowing deliverance.

Jaws is the classic, blockbuster thriller that inspired the three-time Academy Award-winning Steven Spielberg movie and made millions of beachgoers afraid to go into the water. Experience the thrill of helpless horror again - or for the first time! Jaws was number 48 in the American Film Institute's 100 Years...100 Movies, and the film earned the coveted number-one spot on the Bravo network's 100 Scariest Movie Moments countdown.

Praise the Lord for Spielberg

All I can say on this one is thank God that Steven Spielberg put this book in some semblance of order. It differs from the film in many ways, and thankfully the filmmakers got this mainly right when altering. The only area that I found better in the book was the immense pressure that Brody was put under by the townsfolk to keep the beaches open but the affair between Ellen and Hooper added nothing and the fact that Brody and Hooper were enemies just didn’t work at all. It was worth a read and it was free plus from from as far as I could see on audiobook the shark didn’t look as if it was made of rubber.

Story
Ade Edmondson smashed onto the comedy circuit in the 1980s, stormed The Comedy Store and, alongside Rik Mayall, brought anarchy to stage and screen. How did a child brought up in a strict Methodist household – and who spent his formative years incarcerated in repressive boarding schools – end up joining the revolution? Well, he is part Norse. Could it be his berserker heritage? With wisdom, nostalgia and uniquely observed humour, Ade traces his journey through life and comedy.

Thought Provoking made me feel very happy and very sad in equal measure
Reviewed: 30-09-23
A very honest story - candid and a little brutal - I most enjoyed his career and work to the point of The Young One’s and The Comic Strip Presents - in later years I could take or leave his work with the exception of Bottom (live) and my enjoyment of the story followed the same path (which I suppose is to be expected with a self styled “accidental comedian”) It is very clear that he is his own man but I can’t help feel that there is an ever so slight downturn in my perception of him which is disappointing and I didn’t think there would be - certainly not half way through the book - but there you go - however a story worth knowing all the same and the first meeting with Richard ‘Sugar-Flavoured Snot' Briers! Is uncomfortably funny - Can’t help but think though that understandably with time Ade is less ‘Berserker’ than “reactionary stereotype confirming the myth that everyone in Britain is a lovable middle-class eccentric”. But I don’t hate him !!
Well worth a read though

I have read a lot of SK’s books over the years and listened to a fair few on audible - I knew the gist of this book from seeing the film from years ago and the film simply doesn’t start to do the book justice - this book gives character depth and is extremely well performed by James Franco - top marks from me - and such a prophetic book too in many ways - just a shame an ex President never had the opportunity to use a kid as a shield because you know damn well he would have done

Story
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a hit-and-run accident when he was 10, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. Then, when Charlie is 17, he meets a dog named Radar and his aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from it.

Great book - I didn’t want it to end - it will be an excellent book to adapt to film - Mr King makes the villains so villainous - it makes you wonder where he draws inspiration from but then again when you think it was written during lockdown in a land that had the republicans in charge it isn’t too difficult to guess - bravo Sir as always 👍🏻
