Story
So, I’ve written a book. This certainly doesn’t mean that I’m quitting my day job, but it does give me a place to shed a little light on what it’s like to be a kid from Springfield, Virginia, walking through life while living out the crazy dreams I had as young musician. From hitting the road with Scream at 18 years old, to my time in Nirvana and the Foo Fighters, jamming with Iggy Pop or playing at the Academy Awards or dancing with AC/DC and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, drumming for Tom Petty or meeting Sir Paul McCartney at Royal Albert Hall....

Loved it on the whole,
Only criticism is the Paul McCartney love in, that keeps appearing like a Yoko ono.

Vivid storytelling at its best
Reviewed: 08-09-21
Wonderful performance from Mr Slattery, it's like sharing a room with Roger Sterling. Reptative at times, but this is Hemingway's style. In my opinion the most vivid writer ever, you can hear feel and taste every sensation of war time Italy.

Story
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

atmospheric, transports you to the location.

So atmospheric, you can feel the entire scene and locale. Quite thought provoking as a look at ageing in a young man's profession. Absolutely loved it, and the lazy droll tones of Don Sutherland are a match made in heaven.

Story
I've been in this life for 50 years, been trying to work out its riddle for 42 and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last 35. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me.

Sickly, preachy and way too indulgent
Reviewed: 27-11-20
Really looked forward to this, but found it dimmed my opinions of the man. More of a self help book than a memoir. The industry anecdotes are great, but the personal ones are so self gratifying and preachy that I cringed. Also had trouble believing a lot of it.

Dissapointing, the description is mis leading
Reviewed: 20-10-20
I was drawn in by having a narrator with the gravitas of Carey, but felt I'd been mis led by the description of the story fairly early on. not the exciting glimpse of living different glamorous lives, but instead difficult glimpses of depression and suicide.
