This book had so much potential but it was too complicated and disjointed. It just didn’t come together well at the end. I also found some of the voice work annoying.

We’ve all known a cat lady - and we’ve probably all judged her too. But behind the label - the one that only sticks to women - what if there’s a story worth nine lives? Told with Dawn’s trademark warmth, wit and irreverence, Cat Lady is a story about defying labels and forging friendships. Great characterisation and a really intriguing plot. I loved the way the story unfolded and the unexpected saucy scenes. Hilarious. But most of all, I loved the way Dawn O’Porter captured the love for an animal. It was so spot on. If you don’t like this book, you don’t understand this relationship.

On the whole, I really enjoyed the story but again, I struggled with the irritating performance of a northern accent. It feels like the voice actors perceive northern accents as lazy pronunciation. It really grates on me and spoils the experience. Northern accents can sound vibrant and clear. We’re not bumbling idiots.

Story
A unique biography of a homeless man and a complete portrait of the hidden underclass. ‘So here it is, my attempt at the story of Stuart Shorter, thief, hostage taker, psycho and sociopath street raconteur, my spy on how the British chaotic underclass spend their troubled days at the beginning of this century: a man with an important life. I wish I could have presented it to Stuart before he stepped in front of the 11.15 train from London to Kings Lynn.’ Stuart Shorter’s brief life was one of turmoil and chaos.

As soon as it starred, I just loved the writing style and the performance. It was so rich and funny as well as being heart breaking. Highly recommended.

Story
When Barry Fairbrother dies in his early 40s, the town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty facade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.
