William McIlvanney is a wonderful writer, he presents a masterclass in descriptive writing once again, enhanced by an excellent narrator. Read all three of his Laidlaw books and would recommend without hesitation.

Listen to lots of crime novels this one stands out because of the wonderful writing. I'd say exceptional, William McIlvanney's descriptions are clever and picture building. Have to agree with others that the narration would be better left to the professionals. Thank you William, a wonderful thought provoking listen.

A missing private investigator is found locked in a car hidden deep in the woods. Worse still - both for his family and the police - the body was in an area that had already been searched 10 years ago. Detective Inspector Siobhan Clarke is part of a new inquiry, combing through the mistakes of the original case. There were always suspicions over how the investigation was handled, and now - after a decade without answers - it's time for the truth.

Educational from start to finish

An education from start to finish, things have not changed the wicked still 'get away with it'. In a coule of places I had to 'look away' as I could not believe a human could be so inhumane. Interesting how the guilty do not see the horror they enacted and do not take responsibility for anything at all, a position I thought was only in fashion today. Not for the faint hearted, but a must listen. Interesting information on Simon Wiesenthal, if all true a real enlightenment.

David Rupert, a complete outsider with no connection to Ireland, rose to the very top of the Real IRA, all while working for the FBI and British intelligence. But the story is really about just how a bored, frustrated New York trucking manager becomes one of Britain’s most valued spies, brings down the entire IRA structure and makes $10 million in the process.
