Starting today, YouTube Premium subscribers are getting new features to try out. In addition to removing ads, the Premium subscription also offers some exclusive features to make it more attractive and try to improve your experience.
The YouTube team has confirmed up to 5 new features for the Premium tier, 3 of which are experimental. This means that there are 2 labeled ��stable,” while the other 3 are optional and could even give you issues while testing them.
These are the new YouTube Premium stable features
Starting with the new stable features for YouTube Premium, there’s a new “Jump ahead” button that appears when you double-tap on a video to skip seconds ahead. YouTube uses AI and community data to determine the best parts of the video. The new button allows you to jump directly to those parts. This feature is now available on Android, while iOS will receive it in the coming weeks.
Then, there’s a long-awaited feature: picture-in-picture support for Shorts. Basically, you can now minimize Shorts in a floating window while using other apps. This one has been available for a long time in regular videos. So, it’s surprising that it took so long to get to Shorts. Anyway, Shorts will no longer stop playing when you switch to another app.
There are also experimental features
Now it’s time for the experimental features, starting with the implementation of Smart Downloads for Shorts. The feature works the same as in normal videos, downloading Shorts in the background that might interest you according to your tastes. This will allow you to watch them offline when you do not have an internet connection available.
There is also “Conversational AI,” an AI-powered chatbot. This chatbot is far from being as powerful as Gemini, but it doesn’t pretend to be either. It is focused on offering you information related to the videos. It also enhances the search experience within the platform while using natural language. The best thing is that you can use it at any time, without stopping the video playback.
Finally, there’s a redesign of the Watch Page, which is now optional. The company had previously implemented the new design for a section of users in a forced way. However, due to the backlash, you will now be able to decide whether to participate in the test.
