The company announced several new features for Gmail on Android and iOS. Google is bringing the ‘Summarize’ feature to Gmail. This option/button will appear under the subject line at the top of your screen. Do note that it may only appear for longer threads, though.

Another thing to note regarding this feature is that it will appear only for Workspace Labs users this week. Google One AI Premium subscribers and paying Gemini for Workspace customers will get this feature next month.

Gmail Q&A feature is coming

In addition to ‘Summarize’, Google is also pushing out the Gmail Q&A. This icon will pop up in the top-right corner of your inbox. An example for a query that Google offered is “Compare my recent roof repair bids by price and availability”, or “What are the discussion questions for my upcoming book club meeting?”.

This particular feature is coming in July to Workspace Labs users. No mention of when it’ll arrive to others.

Google is also bringing Contextual Smart Replies. Gmail will, with help from Gemini AI, look through your email in order to provide more customized and detailed suggestions than what we have at the moment (with Smart Reply and Smart Compose).

Contextual Smart Replies will appear in a carousel format

These suggestions will appear in a carousel format, one next to the other, below the text you’re writing, and above your keyboard. The Gemini AI icon will be there, and you’ll be able to select what you want it to do, ranging from “Proceed & confirm time”, “suggest new time”, and so on. These are just some examples that Google gave for time-sensitive emails.
