About a week ago, we reported that Android 13 QPR2 Beta 3 is rolling out to Pixel phones. Well, now, Android 13 QPR2 Beta 3.1 has started reaching Pixel devices, with some bug fixes, and a new security patch.
Android 13 QPR2 Beta 3.1 is rolling out to Pixel smartphones
The security patch in question is the Android security patch for February 2023. Before we get into it, it’s worth noting that QPR betas are different than developer previews and regular betas. Many of you know this already, but I just wanted to clarify.
They are usually safer for general use and include “the next round of bug fixes and improvements to stability and performance”. That’s not all, though. They also tend to include some features that are usually rolled out to Pixel phones as part of feature drops.
Now, unlike the first Android 14 Developer Preview build, this one is available on the Pixel 4a. Of course it is, as it’s based on Android 13, but we just wanted to clarify that. It’s actually available on the Pixel 4a, and every Pixel that arrived after it.
There are only two entries in this changelog
The changelog for this update is not really long, not at all. We have only two entries here. The first one has to do with Bluetooth. This update fixes an issue in the system Bluetooth module that had the potential to allow for possible out-of-bounds writes due to memory corruption.
The second entry will be interesting to users from Romania only. Some Romanian translations were missing from the system image (in Beta 3), and that has been fixed now.
Do note that you need to be enrolled in the Android 13 beta program in order to get this update. The update is quite small, though, as it weighs only 21.80MB. It will arrive to your device over the air (OTA). If you’re unwilling to wait, you can always install it manually, by flashing the factory image.
