In early December, Samsung released the Android 13 update for the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. The new Android version was initially available for the refreshed 2022 model of the tablet. More than a month later, the original 2020 model is also getting the big Android update.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2020) gets Android 13

The Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update is currently rolling out to the LTE variant of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2020) with firmware version P615XXU4FWA5 (via). The rollout has begun in France, the same market where the 2022 model picked up the update first. Samsung should expand the release to more markets in the coming days. The Wi-Fi variant (SM-P610) should also soon get the big Android update. Both LTE and Wi-Fi variants of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) have received the new Android version globally over the past month.

Despite coming in the second half of January 2023, the Android 13 update for this 2020 Samsung tablet only brings the November 2022 security patch. The 2022 model also got the same security release last month. But this update is primarily about the new Android version, so this shouldn’t be a problem for anyone. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite will surely get a newer security patch in the coming months. The 2020 model will get those updates at least until May next year, while the 2022 model will get official support for two more years after that.

Coming to the latest update, there’s plenty to talk about here. It brings all the goodies that Google’s Android 13 and Samsung’s One UI 5.0 contain. For starters, you will find a subtle UI redesign with bolder app icons. The Korean firm has added gradient backgrounds to icons and also improved system animations and transitions. There are a host of new features and improvements as well, including new photography and editing tools, AR Emoji improvements, faster multitasking gestures, and more. You are also getting some privacy, security, and accessibility improvements.

The 2020 model will not get Android 14

Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2020) with Android 10 out of the box. Android 13 is the third major Android OS upgrade for the device and the final one too. It will not get Android 14. The 2022 model, on the other hand, shipped with Android 12 onboard. That’s one of the only two differences between the two devices, with an upgraded processor being the other change. The newer model will get two more major Android OS upgrades, i. e. Android 14 and Android 15.
