Android 5.1 Lollipop Arriving For Many Sony Xperia C4s

A number of manufacturers decided in 2015 that they would skip a release of Android 5.1 Lollipop and instead move their devices straight to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. One such manufacturer is Sony and one device purportedly moving straight from Android 5.0 Lollipop to 6.0 Marshmallow, skipping 5.1, was the Sony Xperia C4. As a refresh as to what the Xperia C4 is all about, this device was launched running Android 5.0. it uses the octa-core MediaTek MT6752 System-on-Chip, clocked at up to 1.7 GHz and backed up by the Mali-T760 graphics processor unit and 2 GB of RAM. There’s a 1080p, FHD, 5.5-inch IPS LCD, which comes with Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA2 video processing engine. The device has 16 GB of onboard storage plus a MicroSD card slot, a 13MP main camera. Around the front there’s a 5MP front facing camera, which comes complete with a LED flash for those night time selfies. The device also contains an embedded 2,600 mAh battery.

We’ve seen reports that there is an update to Android 5.1 Lollipop being released for the Xperia C4, and not Android 6.0 as hoped for. Whilst on the one hand it is good news that Sony are working on interim updates to the device, on the other it is disappointing that the device isn’t being moved to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, especially when the company announced that it would be skipping the update to 5.1 and instead presumably concentrating its efforts into bringing 6.0 to the device. We’ve also seen that the update to Android 5.1 is only arriving for five out of the six models of the Xperia C4: model designation E5343 is not yet receiving the update. Both single and dual SIM versions of the C4 are receiving the update, bringing the Sony software version numbers to 27.2.A.0.155 and 27.2.B.0.155.

Early reports on the Internet show that the update to 5.1 Lollipop from 5.0 has improved device responsiveness, especially through improved memory management, reduced application start up times, improved the camera and helped with battery life. And whilst we have no word when Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be released for the device, as and when it arrives we will let you know.
