According to a post on the official Twitter account for Samsung UK, the company will be updating the UK version of its mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy Note 3 Neo, to Android Lollipop at some stage during this year. In an answer to a question about the possibility of a Lollipop update for the handset, Samsung UK Twitted, “We can confirm that the Note 3 Neo will be moving to lollipop”. The company however, refused to give an ETA for the promised update, saying “We are unable to give a time scale”. Samsung had previously confirmed a Lollipop update for the phone in other European markets like France and Netherlands, so the imminent update in the UK wasn’t exactly unexpected, one might say. The new firmware is likely to bring many Lollipop features to the device, including better RAM and battery management, lock-screen notifications and improved security, among myriad other tweaks and improvements. The phone was originally launched with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and has since been updated to Android 4.4 KitKat.

Coming to the Galaxy Note 3 Neo, the mid-range smartphone was launched by Samsung at the start of last year, and features a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, which comes with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, giving it a 267 dpi pixel density. Like its more premium sibling, the Galaxy Note 3, the Neo also comes with an S-Pen, which is Samsung-speak for a stylus the company offers with many of its large-screened phablets. The Galaxy Note 3 Neo is powered by an Exynos 5260 chipset, which is a mid-range SoC from Samsung’s Exynos range of chipsets, designed and manufactured in-house by Samsung. The chip comes with an embedded hexa-core CPU, with four Cortex A7 cores clocked at 1.3 GHz each and two Cortex A15 cores clocked 1.7 GHz apiece. The SoC also comes with a Mali-T624 GPU. The handset comes with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in storage, which can be increased by up to 64 GB with the help of a microSD card. As for the imaging options on the device, the primary camera on the smartphone comes with an 8-megapixel sensor while the secondary camera is of the 2-megapixel variety. The device comes with a 3,100 mAh Li-Ion battery, and supports micro USB v2.0 connectivity.
