The DROID Turbo is likely to go down in Android 5.x (Lollipop) history as the one that got away. In spite of Motorola being quite quick out of the door in announcing their intention to bring Lollipop to their devices first, and for some devices, they were extremely quick. Their other devices have had quite a chequered Lollipop cycle. Of course, the DROID Turbo is not all Motorola thanks to its Verizon influence, although either way and for whatever reason, the DROID Turbo is one of those which has greatly been left behind. As such, the device has gathered somewhat of a momentum from people waiting to see this update land.

An interesting development occurred this morning when reports began to emerge suggesting that Verizon had updated their website to state that the DROID Turbo runs on Android 5.0.2. Which is certainly a jump, seeing it currently reside on Android 4.4 (KitKat). As a result, the news of the Verizon website change, sent the rumor mill into a flurry with everyone trying to figure out if the update was finally rolling out or if this was simply just a mistake on Verizon’s end. There was some semi-confirmation which occurred a few weeks back and went a long way to reinforcing the notion that the update would be landing about now. As a result, it now looks like David Schuster of Motorola, has had to come out and offer some comments in an attempt to address the rumors that are circulating.

In short, Schuster confirmed that the Lollipop update is not currently rolling out. Furthermore, Schuster confirmed that at the moment, there are no firm dates as to when the update will be available. However, all is not lost though as Schuster also did state that the Lollipop update for the DROID Turbo is currently in the lab test cycle and that “things are looking good”. Schuster went on to finish up the message by advising that once the update becomes available (or at least more information on when) he will let everyone know. As such, the wait for Lollipop for the DROID Turbo goes on.
