It isn’t that Motorola is going to release a Gingerbread update for the Atrix, but that they plan to intend to do it. I know that the British speak a different type of English than Americans but this one is a bit of a laugh. Speaking to electricpig.co.uk at yesterdays Atrix launch on Orange in the UK, Motorola VP of International Marketing Andrew Morley was asked if Gingerbread was coming for the Atrix. It’s a really oddly worded quote, but here it is:

“Yes, there are. We haven’t announced timings but we have announced plans for the intentions.”

So, Motorola might maybe definitely release Gingerbread for the Atrix? No, that’s not what he meant. Gingerbread is coming for the Atrix in the US and the UK, possibly at the same time. That’s the good news. The bad? Absolutely no word on when it will happen.

Gingerbread has been available since last November but new phones are still being released running Froyo by all of the manufacturers. At least Motorola is going to think about maybe updating a few of their devices.
