Yeah!!! JUST LIKE THE GOOD OLD-SCHOOL ONES!!!
Beoordeeld in de Verenigde Staten op 23 april 2024
Update: I have now tried almost all of the ties in this listing. The ones I am specifically referring to, when I say they are the excellent, old-school-type ones, are the iridescent ones & the metallic ones, which are exactly like the ones I love, say 5 out of 5; the “steel-beaded”, the colored transparent ones, and the transparent frosted/matte ones, are very, very close, but just a tad bit looser (4/5); the ones with two transparent colors (to match hair color?), are a bit looser still (3/5); and the solid colored ones are the thinner plastic type, which are much more stretchy, and similar to the majority of these types of ties sold on Amazon the past several years (2/5).
Original Review:
I have been using this type of hair tie for many years. They work great on my long, thick hair, they are easy to clean, and I love how I can just blow a hot hair dryer on them for a few seconds and they “magically” shrink up to their original size (the cloth ones don’t do this). About 10 years ago or so, I starting noticing that the ORIGINAL plastic spiral (or “telephone-cord”) ties, by two of the major hair accessory companies in the U.S., were getting harder and harder to find in the stores. As usual, the companies were moving on to other styles, so I bought a bunch of backup ones. A few years ago, even my backup stash was getting low, so I started on a quest to find equivalent ones. I tried the (expensive) German-made ones that drug stores still have sometimes, but don’t like those, therefore, off to Amazonland I go. Needless to say, I have ordered similar looking ones from many different Amazon sellers over the past few years, and kept getting disappointed: they are a different size (too big or too small); they are too thin & too stretchy; they are too thick, tight, and painfully pull on my hair; some have broken, breaking at the seam that hold them together in a circle, when stretched out to put in hair within the first few uses; they are huge and advertised as “bracelets” also—they are just not the same and are inferior to the original ones, and my quest continued…
Recently, I ordered a pack of these and one from another seller (same colors & size—in diameter, circumference, plastic width & center hole, as my old original ones). The other seller’s ones were ok, but not “them”. This brand/seller (Jess Lab): THESE ARE THE ONES!!!!! Yeah!!! I immediately ordered some more, and am going to order again, so I have a LOT on hand when those little suckers go missing (though sometimes, one of my three cats is a hair-tie-thief, & after they play fetch with them a while—yes, you can teach a cat to fetch, & some do it on their own—they like to hide them. I see from a review pic that my cats are not alone!!). So far, I have tried the metallic colored ones and the rainbow/iridescent ones, and both sets were awesome, just like the original old-school ones, and fairly priced. They meet all of the functionality/design criteria that I have been looking for. I also bought the ones with metal “steel beads” in them, which I had never seen before. The box of them are slightly heavier than the other two, and they seem to work fine, though I’m not sure it’s actually “steel” in them. I also can’t vouch for their durability—eventually the metal might start poking through. I think I’ll cut one open to examine what’s actually inside…
From as far as I can tell from the pictures, it looks like a couple of options/colors of this brand are not exactly like the ones I like—some of the solid color ones look a little bit thinner and smaller, so those are probably too stretchy for me. But otherwise: THESE ARE THE BOMB!!!! (A good kind of happy bomb).
I’m so glad I found them. It has taken me probably about 5 years to find these, and sometimes sellers/companies can quickly disappear off of Amazon, so you can trust I bought a much bigger backup stash supply this time (my husband said “Why could you possibly need so many of these things? Are you doing a project with them?” No—it’s just that they have become something I use and rely on every day—the definition of “essential”, as far as I’m concerned!), plus, I’ve already experienced the near run-out of a supply I thought would last me until I died!
I am so happy that I was able to find “plastic spiral hair ties” that meet my (ok—pretty demanding and precise) requirements and therefore, I can say that I have finally, successfully, completed my long, frustrating, constantly disappointing, starting-to-add-up-money-wise, quest…now, where’s my prince??
