Play Along (Windy City Series Book 4) (English Edition) Kindle-editie
I’m the only woman on staff for the Windy City Warriors, and after years of putting up with a sexist lead doctor, I’m desperate to land my dream job with a new team next year. All I have to do is maintain my professional reputation for my final season in Chicago.
But a Las Vegas run-in with the team’s shortstop threatens it all, leaving me with a fuzzy memory and a ring on my left hand.
Now, not only am I legally bound to the most persistent man I’ve ever met, but thanks to Isaiah’s scheme to save my job, I have to pretend the whole thing was a planned elopement and not a drunken mistake.
Isaiah Rhodes is reckless, impulsive, and frustratingly charming. He’s also my brand-new husband.
They got the saying wrong. What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas… sometimes it follows you right back home.
Isaiah
As the shortstop for Chicago’s professional baseball team, I’ve had my fair share of fun. But that all ended the day Kennedy Kay became a single woman.
I’ve crushed on the team’s athletic trainer for years. I’ve flirted to no avail, so imagine my surprise when I woke up in Sin City with a ring on my finger and my favorite redhead in my bed.
We agree to stay married for one baseball season, just long enough to keep her job safe, but in my mind, I’m using our time together to prove to her I’m husband material.
Kennedy might be reluctant to join in on our game, but it’s one I refuse to lose.
So come on, wife… play along.

“My future wife.”
There is nothing better than reading a book you can’t put down. Play Along was that and more for me because I could not stop reading and I still can’t stop thinking about Isaiah and Kennedy.
Liz writes in such a way that you feel immediately immersed in the lives of the characters. When we met Isaiah and Kennedy in Caught Up, I was drawn to them right away and was so excited to learn that their book would be next (though I’m still insanely excited for Rio to finally get his book!!!!)
Isaiah is so funny and charming and goofy while Kennedy is quiet and reserved and keeps to herself. Oil and vinegar right? But doesn’t that make it so much more great when they’re forced to be together?! When Isaiah and Kennedy find themselves accidentally married after a trip to Vegas, Isaiah comes up with a plan for them to fake to ensure Kennedy doesn’t lose her job with the team thanks to its archaic rules and her sexiest boss. They agree to stay married for one baseball season, just long enough to keep her job safe. But Isaiah’s playing his own game too, using this time to show Kennedy who he really is and trying to conceive her this can be more than fake. Kennedy doesn’t want to join his game but Isaiah doesn’t like to lose so it’s time to play along.
To say I’m obsessed (iykyk) with this book is an understatement. I have loved every book in this series and Ryan Shay has been my number one until now! I honestly didn’t think anyone could ever top him, but Isaiah Rhodes has unseated him and become my new number one! The boys in the Windy City Series are top notch and I just know we’re going to go out with a bang when we get Rio’s book.

Isaiah and Kennedy's story was compulsively readable, deeply emotional, and full of delightful humor. Yet again, Tomforde has created two characters that truly felt they were made for each other and are written in the stars. She pulled on tropes that she has done well in her past works, such as forced proximity, fake relationship, and acts of service, but made them feel new and fresh in the context of Isaiah and Kennedy's unique relationship.
Watching Isaiah navigate his grief and anxiety broke my heart and filled me with so much hope as someone who recently lost my mother and deals with a similar form of anxiety. Isaiah was the sweet sunshine, golden retriever boy we already know him to be, but diving deeper into his character and exploring these feelings alongside him was such a beautiful journey.
My connection to Kennedy was surprising. While a lot of our background is different, how we internalized our past experiences and let them influence our current beliefs about ourselves was very similar. I deeply related to her issues with self worth and watching her rewrite those beliefs, with Isaiah's help, left me a weepy puddle of tears after finishing the book. Her journey has taught me a lot that I won't go into in this review - but boy does it mean a lot to me now.
Liz truly never misses. While Play Along does not take The Right Move's spot as my favorite book of hers (and my favorite book of all time!), this one is a very close second!

In this Play Along we have baseball player Isaiah (brother of Kai from book 3) and trainer/secret doctor Kennedy. She is treated very badly by her family and by her boss, the Lead doctor at the Windy City Warriors and for a long time doesn't stand up for herself and doesn't want Isaiah to stand up for her either.
The characters are well developed and likeable. The story is a slow burn and paced well, with a good balance between the progress of the story and the hot scenes. The hot scenes feel essential to the story and progress the story and don't just feel like they've been included to make the book hotter. As with all of Liz's books, it is very well written and a pleasure to read.
Did I spot a potential romance brewing between Reese, the new owner of the team, and 'Grandpa' Monty? Loved the bit where all the girls (& Zanders) commented on how good looking Miller's dad is. Loved seeing all the previous characters but sad Zanders' best friends, Maddison & Logan, from book 1 seem to have disappeared (they were in Liz's earlier 'Selfish' series which is no longer available). The Halloween scene with the Princess Dresses in book 1, Mile High, is still one of my favourite scenes ever!
Will Maddison & Logan return in Rio's book, when we are back to Ice Hockey?
And what about Cody? He needs a book!
