Ben zeer ontevreden.
TLDR: Close, but no cigar. Keep a pdf of the manual, prints are not always perfectly aligned, mobile-only, no SD or USB compatibility, soft images, expensive cost-per-print. Premium images but with a premium cost and with a crippled feature set.
Don't like:
cost per print film alignment mobile-only mobile app dependent (I could be wrong on this one)
I had a love/hate relationship with this printer. First off, the cost per print is absurd, especially once you compare it to the CP1300 which uses larger sheets but the price per print is nearly 20c (vs 80 on the QX), and you've got more than 2x the surface area. I have found some videos indicating people have managed to use the CP1300 paper (there's also third party papers but the price difference is not significant enough to warrant the risk of using random ink & paper), but I believe the ink cartridges don't, so we're at the mercy of Canon's classic cripple hammer philosophy.
Film alignment
Yup, you won't think of this one until it's too late.
Paper alignment. UGH. The printer has no smart way of ensuring that the printed media is aligned. Similar to how your cheap home printer slightly misaligns your Amazon labels. However, considering the size of these prints a slight angle offset appears much more exaggerated as a result of the skew being much more visible Be prepared for some trial and error (at 80c per error). I'm not discounting the possibility that there's a sane (preferably) workaround for this, but it's not like a Polaroid camera which lines up your borders (which somehow managed to solve this issue 40 years ago).
Mobile-only.
I could be wrong here, but the only way to use this expensive monster is via mobile apps on either Android or iOS. This is beyond retarded as you're essentially dependent on a manufacturer to update those apps, you have to install the apps (bye bye privacy), and you're screwed if you lose your phone. It's not like the apps are anything special, either. You're essentially at the mercy of Canon's good graces here.
Connectivity
Wifi (mobile) only: no USB, no SD readers, no bluetooth, or other way to print an image with this printer.
Image quality
Not bad, but not amazing. All of my test images came out soft. The prints are nowhere near the quality of the CP1300. I tried multiple images and they all came out a bit soft. I wasn't about to start test printing resolution charts with different settings. It's not Instax or Polaroid bad, but it's not impressive for a printer in this price class. It's just ok.
Portability & battery life.
It's portable. Mad portable. Weighs about as much as a heavy-ish power bank. The finish is nice.
Conclusion:
Look, it's not a bad printer. But it's not a great printer, either. The images are nothing special, and the cost per print is on the high side of things. If you want something to do quick snaps for a scrapbook or travel adventure you'll be satisfied. To me the disadvantages far outweigh the benefits. If the images were nicer, I'd be more inclined to recommend it. In typical Canon fashion - it's almost there, but not quite. Do you really want to drop 200 euros on a printer/paper combo for so-so results? They're not bad - but they're far from great. That's a lot of cash to drop on something which is just okay; unless you're a pro who wants to use these as a way to test exposure values or to brainstorm on the fly.
The CP1300 seems like the obvious contender here; but it also has drawbacks: namely weight and size. But if you can deal with the CP1300's weight and size (and extra battery costs) you'll be far more pleased at the end: larger images at 1/4th the cost; USB, SD reader, etc.
These printers could have been so much more, but Canon is smoking some seriously good crack if they think this pos printer represents a good value. You might as well just buy an Instax which will be infinitely more fun than messing around with these third-rate Canon apps.
I just realized how much I hate this printer. Think of it as an expensive post-it.
I love this little photo printer. I had bought a different brand a year ago and it constantly jammed. This works great and produces fine quality prints.
