My 14 year old dog is on a tiny pill that needs cut in fourths. A standard push down cutter wasn’t cutting it (haha). The adjustment on this cutter made the cuts much cleaner as long as you push down the lid quick and smooth. If you push down slowly, it crushes the pill.

ok, you can probably tell but there are a lot of moving parts to this. thankfully it comes with a little cleaning brush. the design is alright but there's a few issues we've found that may not make this great for everyone.

First it's great that you can split quite a bit of pills at one time, however the size and type of pill will dictate how well this is actually achieved. The adjustable guide on the side does work well, however you may need to spend some time re-aligning the pills, especially if they are oval or are already scored. When you close the guides they are also sliding in opposite directions and this almost always will rotate the pills enough that you need to realign them. This can be done with a toothpick fairly easily but for an older person with very small pills and possibly not the best eyesight, this may prove a little frustrating. I don't see a way around this though and I think even if the guides didn't slide as they closed, the pills would still rotate a bit. We are using a toothpick to realign the pills and it is working just fine.

Second, if you can get past the moving pills and line them up, we did notice for an older person this may be hard to close. Again I'm not sure how much can be done to address this since that's just the nature of having to cut that many pills at one time. We found it is easiest if you press down with two thumbs, one in the center and one at the open end.

Third, as previously mentioned, it can be a bit messy and there's a lot of places for pill dust to go around in there, and you can't reach all of that with the cleaning brush. Again, I don't see a way this could be avoided.

All that said, if you can get past these things, it is actually quite convenient as most pill cutters are only meant to cut one at a time, and some people may have a lot of pills that will always need to be split. This at least allows one set of things to overcome and the payoff is you've cut around 5-7 pills at one time. It would seem the trade off is well worth it. The construction seems to be sound and has held up well so far, being used a few times a week for over a month.

Overall great, has helped quite a bit with those in our home that normally have to cut one at a time. Will update if we have any issues with this in the future.

I have some pills that are pre-scored that I need to take nightly, and that I need to split for the correct dose. Having one of these pill splitters makes doing that fast and easy. I can split four of my pills at a time with this pill splitter and it leaves minimal dust behind. (Please realize that all pills are different and you may not get the same results as I do.) Also, the color turned out different than the photos. I received one that is most definitely blue in color, as opposed to teal. The bottom is a light blue, while the top is a darker, translucent blue.

FEATURES:
The pill splitter has a gear-like rotatable piece that controls the grips inside, which holds the pills. There’s a safety piece that covers the blade when it’s open. There is a reservoir in the front where you can put the split pills while you split others, although I don’t see myself using this. It’s nice that a brush is included to clean the pill splitter. I would love if the brush had a clip to keep it attached somehow. It seems easy to lose.

EFFICIENCY:
I think this type of pill splitter works best if you have flatter, round, pre-scored pills. Pills with more of a spherical curvature aren’t gripped as tightly and can rotate more easily. It’s necessary not to make too tight of a grip on the pills, or they could fracture and crumble easily because there would not be enough room for both the blade and the pills for the pills to stay intact, if that makes sense. (Sorry, had trouble explaining that.) The harder the pill, the harder of a time you will probably have pushing down on this splitter to make it work. Lining up pre-scored pills can take a little time, but it’s easier if you use your thumbnail in the score mark and turn them to a vertical position in line with the blade before splitting.

THE GOOD:
- Adjustable for many sizes of pills
- Keeps pills contained
- Accurate and sharp blade with safety feature
- Comes with a cleaning brush
- The bottom comes off to help with cleaning

THE BAD (or not so bad):
- Can misplace the cleaning brush
- The harder, more compact the pill, the harder it is to split
- The rounder the pill, the harder it is to split

FINAL THOUGHTS:
This pill splitter works well for my needs, having pre-scored pills of an average hardness. It may not work well on all pill shapes, sizes, and hardnesses, but it is convenient and fast for most pills. I find it to be very useful and I do recommend it. Just be aware that the color might differ from the photo.
