Great All-Around Vacuum - Best for Low Cost Filtration

Great All-Around Vacuum - Best for Low Cost Filtration
I originally purchased a Miele C1 Turbo Team, which was great, but I primarily have a rug and hard floor. The suction was so strong it was too difficult to maneuver to the turbo brush across the rug. So I returned it.I was looking for another good bagged vacuum, the problem was most companies these days only produce bagless variants. Enter Kenmore. They had both Canister Models and Uprights available for much lower cost than the Miele. Once I discovered this Vacuum and did some research on it, I realized it was not only one of the most versatile AND powerful vacuums out there, it has HEPA filtration and BAGS. No dealing with dust bins or filters. I appreciate that the unit pulls apart into a canister like mode for easy transport. The best part is it's roughly half the price of Kenmore Canisters and features larger bags.Cleaning Performance:This thing ROCKS. It isn't necessarily the quietest vacuum out there, but I will trade that for the suction this thing brings to the table. I can tell the suction is strong enough to lift my rug, but due to the weight of the vacuum itself and the large wheels, this thing rolls anywhere I need it to. When attaching attachments it works great for vacuuming the various hard to reach places in my apartment. I have cats and one of the biggest reasons I was looking for a new vacuum was being able to quickly and efficiently vacuum stray cat litter. This thing has 0 issues doing it, and because it's a HEPA bag, I don't have to deal with any dust or smell from it.Hardfloors:I am including this separately as we know the suction power is plenty capable, but I want to highlight that the machine does just fine on hardwood floors, thanks to the shape of the cleaning head and the ability to turn off the Brush Roller. If you leave it on you WILL spit debris behind the machine, but when off that glorious suction power sucks everything right up.The brush head is large enough that it may not fit under all cabinets or furniture, but thankfully that's where the wand mode comes in and is very easy to detach and reattach. The wheels are smooth and make almost no sound on smooth floors, though if you have tile or old hardwood you might notice some noise but it isn't bad. I haven't seen any marks or damage from the vacuum on my floors.Features:I really appreciate the LEDs on the unit. While the floor head is technically smaller than other units, what you get in exchange is much higher suction so I'll take the trade off. The construction while almost entirely plastic, seems sturdy and looks good. Buttons are firm yet easy to click, and the various locking mechanisms are strong. I do wish however the attachments had the ability to lock at the end of the hose in wand mode, but this is a very minor issue and doesn't impact the ability to clean. The cable is plenty long and longer than average at 30 feet.Portability:The vacuum is all things considered quite light. It's easy to push and maneuver. It gets even light when you lift it off the base, and because the bottom of the bag compartment is flat, you can set it down on stairs or a counter if your are cleaning hard to reach places. If you find that the vacuum is struggling to move on your carpets or rug, you can open the suction valve easily on the handle to reduce the amount of suction to make moving it easier. Even with he valve open the suction is plenty strong to clean.Health/Air Quality:It's wild, I can smell (or not smell?) a very big difference just a day after using this vacuum. Because all the dust and dirt is captured in the HEPA bag, the air coming out of the machine is cleaner than going in. And because I know it's much better than my Shark Stick vacuum at picking up debris and dust, there's less particles to leave a smell in my home. If you have allergies or pets and want to ensure your place is as clean as it can be, without spending twice as much money on a bigger vacuum, buy this one.The competition:I obviously purchase a Miele C1 Turbo Team. While much more expensive, it does have durability and RAW power going for it. For me however due to the form factor, that suction was too strong for my rugs and I decided it wasn't worth the cost. Still a top recommended vacuum if it works for you and RAW POWER is your main concern along with longevity. Less features for more than double the price.Kenmore Elite Upright:If I had a bigger home with a lot more carpeting I might have upgraded to this for even more suction (second only to a Kirby) and much more features such as the dirt sensor. Still cheaper than a Miele though.Shark and Dyson:These were non-options for me as they don't offer bagged units.Kenmore Canister:Due to my previous experience with a canister vacuum I was hesitant to go with these. Though they may be beneficial for some. Primarily I was interested in the Kenmore Elite Canister for the Cross Over dual head feature and dirt sensing. Definitely more expensive but it was the only model I would have considered.I hope my review helps you understand why this thing is genuinely in my opinion the best option for MOST people. Unless you have some niche needs or really desire that extra oomph, you can't beat this machine in day to day life.

Here are the things it does (or has) that my old Shark didn’t:

• Disposable bags! No more dust storms!
• Just as easy to use on medium-pile carpet as on low. More easily maneuvered in all settings.
• A bright headlight! I missed this so much.
• Higher cord connection
• Longer cord, just as easy to store
• Much MUCH easier release buttons for using wand alone
• Classy looks!
The only minus is the high loud whistle while running. I quickly got used to that.
The only plus the other one had was that it sucked a little more 🙂 . The suction in the Kenmore is quite adequate without feeling as though it’s trying to inhale the whole house. So happy I decided on this one!

I am kind of a vacuum snob; and have used the best in my lifetime of cleaning: Miele, Rainbow, Dyson, Shark, Hoover, etc. and I have also used the worst when I was a poor student. I have also used all kinds: cannister, upright, handheld, and even those old kind of inflatable bag vacuums that my Grannie had. You really have to get a vacuum based upon how you are going to use it and what you clean most. I bought this for my Dad's condo that has a bit of tile but is mostly a long shag type carpet throughout. He also had a short hair dog that shed more than any dog I have ever seen AND the town he lives in is famous for its winds and white powdery dust that coats everything. Given this, a bagless cannister just couldn't handle the fur and dust. I went with this vacuum based upon reviews and the fact that it was going to need to be able to suck up both fur and dust, which is a bagless type vacuum like Dyson's worst enemy when it comes to plugging up the filters and seriously decreasing suction. My poor Dad had bought a cheap little Hoover upright before this that would plug up within 5 minutes of use, and then start spitting out the dirt and fur back onto the carpets )-: That was trash- if you spend $60 on a new vacuum don't expect anything from it. But I don't think that you need to spend $1,000 either- that is crazy! This vacuum stood up to about (I am serious) 6 solid hours of vacuuming a year's worth of dirt and fur. No overheated motor, no plugs, no decreased suction, and no plumes of dust and dirt as you try to shake out the cannister into the trash. I did go through 3!!! vacuum bags though. I really love a feature it has that tells you when there is too much long hair or string on the beater bar - a light turns red which allows you to clean it and then you don't have to guess if it is jammed up or not. I also like that it has lights that come on to tell you how full the vacuum bag is getting and then when it is full so no guessing. The vacuum is very light to push and has a great motion over thick/loopy carpets. But it does get heavier as the vacuum bag fills, though nowhere near as heavy as my Dyson. My only con for this machine was that the cord would position itself behind the tools that are on the back of the cannister and pop them off as you vacuumed, but honestly, this was not a deal breaker for me- I just kept the tools somewhere else while I worked. I also loved how easy it was to switch it to a hand-held to vacuum up pet fur off of couches or dust of baseboards, actually much quicker than my Dyson. It does have a short hose when you do this, and when I was reaching up high to vacuum blinds, the machine would tip itself over due to the short hose, I simply laid it on its side when I did this- problem solved. Changing out the vacuum bags was easy, too. I was able to do it without reading the instructions (-; Overall- I am super impressed with the handling, suction, quality and ability to hold up to really tough dirty conditions that I took it through.

This is a nicely designed upright vac that is easy to use. I like the compact size. It has good suction and works well on bare floors and carpets. A quick push of a button turns on or off the beater brush. It’s easy to use the provided tools for detail work. The pet brush, activated by the suction, cleans up dog hairs on furniture or (in my case) washable pads my dog sleeps on. Only issue is it’s a bit heavy at 14 pounds.

We have a full size Miele upright vacuum. It has worked well for around 8 years, but as we get older it is very heavy. At almost 26 pounds, and costing almost $700, it has everything you would want in a vacuum except light weight. So we decided to buy a much lighter model. After looking around for many months the Kenmore Intuition came on the market. Looking on Consumer Reports, a Kenmore model was the top brand for a model with a bag. But since the Intuition is a new model, it had not been tested. It turned out to be a great purchase.

Listed are the items that are important to me on the Miele that and how they compare to the Kenmore.

1. Weight - The Kenmore is almost half the weight, so much easier to use. It doesn't feel as well made as the Miele with its mostly metal design, as compared to plastic, but then again that is what makes it so light. And maybe what helps in making almost 1/3 the price!

2. Suction - Hands down the Kenmore has a lot more suction! You get close to something on our hardwood floors and it pulls it in. And on carpet it seems to really suck the dirt out.

3. Bag system - The Miele has a great bag on it and connector to install and take it out. Same on the Kenmore. The Kenmore may have a little edge here as the whole top comes off so you put it right over the trash and take out the bag. But that doesn't really matter, as both machines have a bag that seals up as you take it out of the machine.

4. Hepa filter - Both machines have a three way filter. A great bag, a small foam filter and a larger Hepa filter. Same design and it works really well.

5. Light - Both have a good LED light to see under items. The Kenmore may be a little better here.

6. Removable hose with several attachments carried on the machine. Both have this. The Miele hose hard tube part will expand and get larger, while the Kenmore stays the same long length. I like the design of the Miele a little better here, but for one really important design difference. The Kenmore allows the whole top of the machine to come off and you can carry around the hose unit without the floor base. So this makes it 10 times better in using the hose with attachment.

7. Maneuverability - This is one area where the Kenmore falls down a little. The head on the Miele turns better than the Kenmore. The only thing that helps out with the Kenmore is that it is so light, but can drag it around anyway. So maybe a half a star better for Miele.

8. Suction control - The Miele has a knot on it that will turn down the suction. This is used for different rug types, and for hardwood floors. Update —- I FOUND the suction control on the handle of the Kenmore and it does help on the small rugs! The Kenwood does not have this control. I thought it would be missed. Well it is on small 2 by 4 foot throw rugs. With the Meile you turn the suction down and you can go over the rug. You can not do that with the Kenwood. It trys to pull the rug up. I have a work around in that I put on the pet brush on the hose and use it at full power. You have to do the extra step, but the full power suction does a better job of cleaning these rugs. Like the one at our front door that get really dirty. It really cleans up this rug and makes it look better than the Miele ever did. And you had to change the suction on the Miele for rug piles. The Kenmore stays on full power and works very well on any rug type. And on hardwood or tile floors also.

The thing the Miele can't do is break apart and use the top unit by carrying it around. This is a real plus for us. We have steps that really didn't get the cleaning before that we can now do with the Kenmore.

I hope this help others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great vacuum for the money

This vacuum has a lot going for it, cleans very well, has great filters so no dust seeps out, is light and easy to move around, not too noisy, has a great set of attachments, and it uses a bag so no filters to clean and no dust spilling out and wafting around when emptying. The bags are surprisingly good quality and it comes with 7, one in the vacuum and 6 extras. Would highly recommend for cleaning medium size spaces. The head is fairly narrow so it's not the best for large spaces, too much back and forth.

I have owned several hepa filter vacuums over the years and this is the very best one. It has great suction and it spins exactly where you need it to go. The light is so helpful, I really missed that on my other vacuums. I love how easy it detaches in order to do small areas. I would buy this again in a minute and the price is the best part. I have spent hundreds more and have not 10 out of 10been as pleased as I am with this one. If you have broadloom and allergies or don't want dust flying in the area when you clean, then buy this machine. 10 out of 10!

Love this vacuum. Right from the start you can feel the difference in the quality. It is not any louder then my previous vacuums. Suction is noticeably better. It takes some getting used to having a cord again but the trade off is worth it. It’s not the lightest vacuum I’ve had but it’s very easy to move around and it detaches from the base to carry while using the wand. Overall it’s a 12/10.
