It does what I want, and does it well.The chassis mount is a nice waterproof fit. The plug assy unscrews for assembly pretty easily. You'll need to solder wires to both.Well worth getting.

There are two general applications for this connector pair: a highly engineered use you will know about more than me, and for steampunk / gaming / simulated military use.

When plugged in, five electrical connections are made. Connections use a spring-loaded bed-of-nails approach, with pressure from extending pins inside the male portion at the end of the cable pressing down on fixed pads in the panel-mount portion, each gold flashed. Such connections usually don't use sliding friction to keep their gold flashing intact, but the housing of the male end is inserted, then twisted, to secure it, so the pins and pads do rub against each other. Let's hope the gold flashing is thick enough that it will not rub off during the life of the connector.

The panel-mount portion of the connector fully exposes its electrical pads when the male portion is not plugged in. No cap, dustproof, waterproof, or otherwise is included. A nut is included to secure the panel-mount portion to your panel with your hole in it, but no grommet or waterproofing washer is included for mounting, either. You solder each of five wires in the rear, one to a solder cup a few mm back of each pad, to make electrical connection within your console.

Similarly, you solder each of five wires to the rear of the assembly inside the male portion of the connector. The connector has to be taken apart, and you can slip an included strain relief spring over your five-conductor cable as it leaves the back side of the connector. I don't know where you get cable that automatically seals the back end of the male connector when secured in place to make the connector waterproof, so this can be another place for water to get in.

With all this talk of waterproofing as a feature of this connector, there still are a number of ways for water to get in. There may be a need for some silicone sealant, but I'm not guessing that will keep this connector waterproof to the depth described.

This connector feels good in the hand, gives the impression of seriousness, and would feel a little intimidating to someone if you handed the male part to them and barked "Plug it in!" while they figure out how to align the red markings, then twist. In other words, for entertainment purposes it has heft beyond its weight. Big, red "Stop" buttons make drama, this connector extends the experience.
