What I didn't like about the phone was the FM radio feature, it was barely functional but I don't listen to the radio on my phones. I wished it came with a 3.5mm headphone jack like the A9, inconvenient if you use a wired headphone and needs to charge at the same time.

Camera: (from Pro and Portrait modes)
1. 50 MP - Highest resolution but provides the least appealing picture. Soft and diluted.
2. Pro - You can change settings and fine tune your camera app. Pretty good results for but web only.
3. Portrait - Probably the best camera setting on the phone with the best image results.
Note: low light is really grainy and bad. This phone is made for outdoors photography only. The pictures were taken mid morning with full sunlight to get a good picture.
Gaming:
Gaming on this phone is doable, but your gameplay will be subpar. The graphics on this phone are underwhelming and gameplay is choppy on almost all games. On Madden Mobile, compared to the iPhone I have, the performance is about 50% of what the iPhone can do (less detailed models, choppy framerates, and lots of screen hanging). You can play games like solitaire or other less intense games and it will be fine, but don't expect any newer games to run well.
Video playback:
This was the biggest disappointment for me. Playing back videos on YouTube was limited to 1080p in Fullscreen. Anything higher than that and the phone would hang and struggle to play the video. The smoothest playback is 480p, but that's SD quality. Watching anything 4k on the phone results in laggy/stuttering performance from Netflix to Amazon Prime video.
At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. If I was looking for a cheaper phone with a big screen, I might look at this device. But if I wanted to play a little game, watch a little video, or do some work on my phone, I would not use this device. It's nice to look at, but there's a big performance dip.
Note: Phone does not get hot under heavy use, so that's a major plus.

Hubby needs to take detailed pics on the job, of blueprints, parts and materials, updates and etc. This phone is guaranteed to capture all of the details and with the amount of storage available he can hang on to whatever he needs to for however long he needs.
Plus there's plenty of space for personal items too. The battery life is great! We both do not charge our phones unless we need to anyway, but this phone has went 3 days so far and is just now needing charging. That's with his video watching too. The battery is great.
Hubby is really good about closing down apps and shutting pages down once done. That saves on the data and speed usage. Those who aren't used to doing so may experience lag if you've got numerous apps or tabs running at once.
In my opinion, however that is to be expected with a more affordable phone. All of the other specs really make this a good deal! The reception is great. Clear calls. No drops so far. Just overall a great phone at a great price!
Top reviews from other countries
The microSD and sim card tray do not need a key to be opened. You can easily pull out the tray. It's on the upper left edge of the phone labeled SIM/TF Card. The phone supports dual SIM. If two SIM cards are inserted, you cannot insert a microSD card.
The phone is unlocked and worked right away with my sim card. Text and call works fine. Data also works. The phone was able to find and connect to 5G and 2.4G Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi connectivity is good. I haven't had problems with disconnections so far.
Performance is good when swiping screens and navigating apps. I can listen to music, watch movies and videos, and play games. The screen is very dim. I always have brightness at max indoors. The G5 Mecha max brightness appears to be what's 25% brightness of my Samsung phone. Battery life is still great though. Lasts all day. I used it for continuous hours for casual gaming.
The battery capacity is 6000mAh. Though the battery life is long and sufficient throughout the day, charging takes a while. I tried to use the same fast charger I use with Samsung phones and it didn't charge fast at all. When I was using the phone while charging with the fast charger, the battery percentage didn't go up. I think it's best to use the charging cable and power adapter included with this phone. It's also best to not use it while charging so it charges faster.
Haptic feedback and sounds are default on, so when tapping and typing on the touch keyboard, the phone makes click sounds and vibrates. It can be turned off in Settings > Vibration & haptics > Interactive haptics.
The physical build and quality of the G5 Mecha feels good and looks good. There is no case included with the phone. There is an edge around the whole phone. There are rubber bumper corners. On the left edge, it says water proof and shock proof, though I haven't tested this. I don't usually use my phone without a case, so it'll be interesting to see how this holds up.
Power and volume buttons are on the right side. Power button is below the volume buttons. Left side has the microSD/SIM tray. It looks like there's a mic on the top and bottom of the phone. The bottom also has the usb-c charging port and speaker.
There is a fingerprint reader on the power button. My other phone has the fingerprint scanner under the screen and a lot of screen protectors didn't work well with it, so it's nice to try a phone that has it elsewhere. I think the fingerprint scanner on the power button is easy to reach and convenient. But at the same time, the resting position of my hand touches the power button, so sometimes the phone unlocks when I don’t want it to. I'll have to get used to it. It's nice it has fingerprint unlock, and you can add multiple fingerprints. There's also face unlock, though I don't use it.
There are two rear cameras. I thought there were 3 but the other circle is flash. There is a front selfie camera.
The camera is pretty good for a budget phone. I don't have a phone at similar price to compare to. The picture quality is not that impressive if comparing to higher end phones, but it's good overall for a budget phone. For the G5 Mecha, I would describe the camera quality as clear, sharp, and grainy at times. I think the sharpening makes the picture grainy, but it's still clear and decent quality. Fineness can be adjusted. I am able to read pictures taken of text and signs. I can zoom in and see details. The colors sometimes appear washed out or high contrast. The picture quality is better when there is good lighting. You will want you and your subject to be still when taking pictures. There is HDR and burst mode but the camera has a lot of motion blur.
The camera app has modes: panorama, portrait, pro, capture, video, 50MP, time lapse, slow motion, QR code, and night. Panorama, pro, 50MP, time lapse, slow mo, and qr work with the rear camera only. There is 10x zoom. Zoom in some modes like 50MP and slow mo are not supported. There is by default a watermark (Shot on UMIDIGI G5 Mecha) that can be turned off in camera settings.
Settings for picture size:
(front): (4:3) 8mp, 4mp, 2mp; (20:9) 5mp; (16:9) 6, 2, 1 mp
(back): (4:3) 13, 8, 3 mp; (20:9) 5mp; (16:9) 9, 6, 2 mp
Settings for video size:
(back camera): FHD 1080P, 30fps; HD 720p, 30fps; SD 480p, 30fps
(front): HD 720p, 30fps; SD 480p, 30fps; CIF, 30fps
There is one speaker on the bottom right edge beside the usb-c charging port. Volume is loud enough but the speaker is mono, not stereo. I would use headphones for watching movies and listening to music. If audio experience doesn't matter, then the internal speaker works fine. When holding the phone in landscape, my hand sometimes covers the speaker though.
The internal microphone works fine for calls. I am heard clearly during calls. For audio and video recording, the internal mic is okay. It doesn't record stereo. There seems to be some internal noise. If I record my voice and turn the volume up to hear it, it sounds like there's a motor in the background. I can still hear and understand my voice but there is definitely internal noise, not ambient noise.
• There is no 3.5mm headphone port so you will need an adapter (purchased separately).
• The phone's usb-c port worked with one of my usb-c wireless lav microphones. I tried another wireless lav receiver connected using a usb-c to usb-c cable (did not work) and usb-c audio adapter (also did not work).
• The usb-c port supports OTG. I was able to use a usb-c hub with this phone to read/write to usb flashdrives and connect peripherals like a keyboard and mouse.
• The usb-c port does not seem to support output to external monitor. I tried with a portable monitor and it was only able to power the monitor but not output audio/video.
There are a few preloaded Google Apps. There's also Clock, Calculator, Sound Recorder, FM Radio, Files, Settings, Toolbox and Zello. Zello seems to a communication app. You need to register to use it. It can't be deleted but I disabled it from use. The Toolbox app has functions: noise test, flashlight, bubble level, pic hanging, measure height, magnifier, alarm, plumb bob, protractor, compass, and steps. To use the FM Radio, you need to plug in headphones to use as an antenna. The default internet browser is Google Chrome. The messaging app is Google Messages. The gallery is Google Photos. Split screen (top and bottom) is supported for compatible apps.
Overall, the Umidigi G5 Mecha feels like a good budget Android phone. It handles the basic things I use a phone for. Performance is pretty good and it supports dual SIM and microSD. Battery life is also very good so far, though charging could be faster.
Here is a general list of the important specs on this unlocked phone:
1- Dual SIM and Comes with second latest official release of Android 13.
2- Octa-Core Processor.
3- 6.56 Inch HD display. (1612 X 720)
4- 8GB of running RAM.
5- 128GB of storage.
6- 6000 mAh battery.
7- 50MP Camera / 8MP Selfie camera on front.
8- Fingerprint Sensor.
9- RUGGED build to resist water, dust, and shock.
10- Comes with screen protector installed, 10-watt Fast Charger, and USB-C cable.
Setup was as expected with no issues at all. The phone’s screen is clear and crisp, and it was easy to type and select without any glitches. Wi-Fi connected fast, I setup my Google account, and all my apps loaded from backup without any problems.
One thing this phone doesn’t have that I wished it did was NFC (Near Field Communication) capability so you can use Google Wallet to tap and pay for purchases. You can’t use without NFC. Bummer!
I did appreciate while setting up the phone is there isn’t any bloatware or apps for advertising etc. The stock Android 13 comes as is.
The layout of the buttons is slightly different than other phones I’ve had. The volume up and volume down button are on the right-hand side, but lower and next to the power on/off button that doubles as the fingerprint sensor. The SIM tray is on the top left side of the phone, and you do not require a SIM tool to open it. There is a rubber cover which is also part of the tray. You just use your fingernail to gently pry it open. There is no 3.5mm audio jack on this phone so wireless connectivity is the only option.
The phone is responsive and just as good as my previous flagship model. Swiping is smooth without drag or jerky movements. Its sensitive to touch and the phone responds quickly. Even with multiple apps running in the background, I didn’t notice any lag.
The brightness level on this phone is slightly dull. Even at the highest brightness level, the phone just doesn’t have the brightness compared to my previous phone. Side by side, the Umidigi is dull looking but by itself without comparison, its OK. I do wish it pushed out a brighter display.
I was able to connect to my Network as soon as I inserted the SIM card. Keep in mind that this phone only works with Canadian Networks that share the Bell or Rogers infrastructures. Call quality is excellent. The speaker and mic work well too. No issues texting or using messenger. All connectivity worked without any glitches.
One of the best features of this phone is the Rugged design. The phone feels heavy, but you can see the added protection in the molded case as part of its design. All 4 corners have an extra hard padded protective layer. The build and design seem rugged as advertised but I’m not about to drop the phone to test it.
The camera takes excellent pictures. I included just one in this review to show the color and sharpness at the default settings only.
Conclusion:
I like the phone. Wish it had NFC and a brighter display, but its hard to beat the specs on this phone for the price. You get a latest version of Android, 6.6” HD display, Dual SIM, 8/128 GB of Ram and Storage, 6000mAh long lasting battery, a 50MP camera, and the Rugged build to resist water, dust, and shock.
At the time of this review, there is also an available 22.00-dollar coupon. This phone with all its features under 200.00-dollars is an exceptional bargain.

This is the second phone from this brand that I've ordered and its even better than the last one (which i was very happy with). They are really bridging the gap to the $1K+ phones.
I wont speak to the manufacturers spec's, you can check the advert for that. That said, I will say that this phone feels like a premium brand in your hand. Looking the part too. So far I have had no issues with performance, sending/receiving calls and texts with ease.
I have not anything more demanding yet like a FPS game, but will likely try in the near future. That should weed out any performance issues, if there are any.
Its has been just as fast as I expected from a brand new phone.
I like that it has expendable memory, I have run out of memory on iPhones before (from excess picture taking) and there is no way to expand the memory on iPhones. Popping an extra memory card in is an ideal solution to that.
Speaking of picture taking, the camera is also quite good. I am always pleasantly surprised when using a new phone, how much phone cameras have advanced. Pictures are crisp.
At this price range for a new phone in the Canadian market, I think this will be a hard to top. Easy 5/5
As always, I will update my review in the future if my opinion on the product changes.
