4.0 out of 5 starsGood Samsung 4K monitor, plenty of ports. Simple stand, expected more from Samsung...

I really wanted to like this monitor based on TVs I have had in the past from Samsung. I received this Samsung monitor in a big Amazon box and didn't have any packaging. Probably not Samsung's fault but it made me feel uneasy with the poor packaging, potentially breaking the screen.
Thankfully, the monitor was unharmed. Upon unboxing, I noticed all the ports on the side and below. It has several USB A and USB C ports, with a service port for upgrading the firmware. There's also an ethernet port on the side. What did kind of confuse me was the fact that this monitor is still using the old USB-B 3.0 port to serve the USB A ports on the side.
The display quality of the monitor is not terrible, but it's not wonderful either. It is in fact 4K resolution, but that does not define the quality of the display or the panel. One of the drawbacks is that this is a VA panel, which is on the lower end compared to higher end IPS panels. What that means is that the field of view is not going to be as good as IPS. It's probably not going to be as good for rotation to vertical, even though I've seen videos online advertising the use of this monitor in a vertical configuration.
At the price point, this monitor is very expensive. My Dell monitor which is made for gaming, with the same size and close to the same price point has an IPS panel and overall the quality of the display is much, much better. This monitor has very minor problems with the edges but not a huge deal.
I do like the versatility of having extra ports on the bottom, which makes it ideal for a "docking station" kind of computing experience, but you might need to figure out drivers. I am only using this monitor for the sole purpose of outputting display so I did not test the ports, which most people probably wouldn't either.
There is a lot of competition in the monitor space and there is a great website that does reviews on the best monitors for specific use cases. Search for the website beginning with rt and ends with ngs.
I'm still going to enjoy this monitor but I can definitively say there are better options.
TLDR, at this price point, there are a lot of better options.
