Upon opening my shipment, I was pleased to find everything packed neatly and in a sturdy box. Shipping is something many manufacturers fail to consider these days it seems, but this was packaged well and shipped cradled with care. That makes for a good start to me. I was very pleased with the included tool tote bag. Seems to be made of a very durable, heavy duty nylon type material. Has a couple of exterior pockets and one with a Velcro flap. Very nice and a perfect fit for the two tools with their batteries and charger. I show a picture of the included contents that I received, which include the drill and impact driver, two 21V batteries and charger, 5 Philips bits (look to be #2’s?) and two belt clips that you could attach to the tools if you want… also included the two screws for those clips. I was pleased to find that the two Lithium Ion 21V/2000mAH batteries were shipped with what I think is supposed to be the optimal storage charge for these types of batteries – around 70% or so… as the included battery charge level meter shows. Both were approximately “3 bars” – they both took a complete charge without issues and took about 30 minutes each to “top off” or until the charger gave me a steady green light anyway. I did notice that the charger and battery became slightly warm during charging but nothing shocking hot or anything, just an expected warmness. The drill has a magnetic spot located at the base of its handle that easily grabs a couple of bits. The magnet is strong and will hold 3-4 bits but if you crowd it too much you might knock some of them loose while moving about. The drill is STRONG!... I would put it up against my Porter Cable 20v system drill any day. I was able to drill in some wood with no effort at all, I’m looking forward to putting it to test against tougher circumstances when a project to do so comes my way! The trigger speed control of both tools is very smooth and precise… I LOVE the low/low speed you can start with, makes it easy to verify your ‘spot’ before committing to a full-on flurry of drilling or driving. The triggers for both felt good and weren’t mushy or felt like you needed to squeeze the daylights out of them to make them move. Precise, digital-like feeling. The impact driver is also very powerful but I find the controls at its handle base to be a bit fiddly and confusing. The button labeled “Speed” does seem to cycle through 4 different levels of maximum speed controls, but the other button labeled “Scene”, which I take to be the control function for impacts/per minute or second or however they would be denoted... to not quite function as the manual suggests. First, I think the “Scene” label should be changed to “Impacts” of “IPM” or something AND that the button colors or combinations be better explained in the manual. To be clear… this thing DOES punch when twisting a bit! The impacts are present and can be controlled but its just not intuitive as to how to best make the settings. I also have aging eyes and the teeny print is impossible to see without blowing it up with my camera to see. That won’t affect everyone, but it certainly hinders me. I’m impressed with this kit – especially compared to the big brand prices. For an average homeowner I think these will do most of everything you could throw at them. If I discover problems or weaknesses, I will update my review to reflect that but for a new experience I am very pleased with this kit!
