1.0 out of 5 starsSCAM ALERT, DO NOT BUY
Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2023
This plan is trash and a scam, absolutely stay away and do not buy! I purchased this plan alongside my s23 ultra. I went on vacation, my little niece fell and accidentally cracked my screen (The whole phone still works fantastically and as new, only the bottom corner cracked). I tried to put in a claim online, and they're online portal would not show the plan that I had purchased. So I had to call them the next day, they told me that I would have to pay $140 for the deductible. Keep in mind I already paid about $240 to purchase the insurance plan in the first place. Regardless, I said okay. I went to the asurion store and showed them my phone and told them what I was told. They pulled it up on their system and told me the only thing they could do was take the phone back (treating the phone as a total loss) and have Amazon issue me a credit back for the phone. Not a refund, "a credit." So that means that I would be out $140 for the processing of the claim, I would also be out $240 for the initial purchase of the insurance, and I would also be out around $100 for the taxes I paid on the phone (which they are supposed to refund because if the transaction is being reversed or canceled that means there are no taxes that need to be paid. So the taxes are supposed to be refunded, but they don't). So financially, I would be out $480 and they would only be refunding me around $620 (The phone itself cost around $1,100). So essentially, they would have made a clean profit of $480 for absolutely no reason, they would also get the phone back from me and they will be able to fix the screen for little to no cost and resell it to someone else at nearly full price. So they would get someone else to pay full price or close to full price for the phone that I would send back to them AND they would also get the $480 minimum profit from me. In addition, if I were to then turn around and buy another phone directly from Amazon (because they give you a credit, and not a refund so you would be forced to buy it again from Amazon) I would have to pay the difference again of the $240- $480 (depending on if I wanted to just buy the phone or buy the phone and the protection plan again -because they will cancel the old plan as soon as they process the claim-). So with this SCAM, they end up losing absolutely no money. But they end up making two to three times the amount of money on just one phone per person. It's literally INSANE. Not to mention that I would be without a phone for a minimum of 1 to 2 weeks while waiting on them to issue back the credit onto my Amazon account. I would also be forced to purchase another phone directly through Amazon, so I couldn't just do something different like purchase it directly from Samsung if I wanted to. In addition, there's all the stress that I would have to go through with calling them and checking in on them and trying to figure out when they'll issue this credit back to the account, if ever. There's also all the risk that, only you -the customer- would be taking on as far as not knowing what new product you'll get. You might get a new phone and that phone has even more problems than the original phone that you purchased. So you're fully taking on all of the risks of the unknown, for no reason. It's literally insane. Oh no, no, no. These people feast on idiots. I literally just told them to give me back a refund for the insurance plan. I went directly to Samsung, got my screen expertly replaced so it wouldn't mess up the warranty on the new phone. And moved on with my life. I also paid less for the fixing of the phone, because I got the $220 refund from canceling the Asurion/Amazon scam "insurance." Do yourself the favor, run the opposite direction. It's a scam.
