I applied for this card making sure my credit score was good enough to obtain it. I hate the feeling there are things out of my control so I studied all the requirements before sending the request. I'm a declared fan of all Amazon's products, this couldn't fail. After a few days I got a letter from Chase asking me for some details such as my SSN card and a proof of residence. Fair. During that day, I went to a Chase office in person to show all my papers, and they said "you're approved". Effectively, I got my card a week later. It came with a described list of all basic steps: how to activate it, sign in for online account, etc. Even my Amazon account automatically assigned this card as my default payment method. To make sure it was properly working, I bought a couple of stuffs on Amazon without using the $70 gift card. I thought "I can use the benefit later" and it worked as expected.Sounds like a nice story, right?Well, next day I tried to pay my lunch with my brand-new Amazon Prime Visa but it was rejected. I didn't pay much attention and I just called by the end of the day to Chase. Surprise was to hear they'd decided to close my card without immediate notice. In addition, they said they didn't have access to the actual reasons. They just said I had to wait seven to ten days for a letter with the reasons. I must be honest, I was totally upset with this situation and I thought to send this feedback right away. But, what is a good review without the whole story?Today I got the glorious letter. The reason? NOT ENOUGH CREDIT INFORMATION ON FILE.Really? Don't they have the chance to check this after asking me for my SSN, ID, creating a hard inquiry on my credit score, etc? Don't they have the chance to check this information BEFORE SENDING THE PHYSICAL CARD?I thought Chase + Amazon = best combination. Now, for the very first time, I cannot recommend an Amazon product.

This card has sneaky interest rate policies that you should be aware of prior to getting the card. I am a loan underwriter and credit analyst, so this experience was particularly irritating because I know exactly how credit cards work! I received my first statement and paid all but $25 (by accident, meant to pay in full) on time. So my carryover balance was $25, which I would expect to be charged interest for. However, on the next statement I see I have been charged interest for the full balance PLUS my new purchases, of which I was still within the grace period at that point. This happened again the following month. So I called Chase and was told that for this particular card, if you don't pay the balance in full they charge interest on the TOTAL balance - not the carry-over balance like most other credit cards, which in my case was $25 - PLUS they will forego the grace period on your current purchases! I told them I won't be using this card anymore, and that this is predatory. Beware, if you can't pay the balance in full by the due date each month, the interest you will be charged is not worth the rewards; you will wind up spending more on interest than you will receive back. My FICO is in the 800s and they are charging over 15% APR - with no grace period because of that $25 carryover the first month - so I imagine the average interest rate on this card is well over 20%. There are much better reward cards out there that don't practice usury.

Discounts and Prime video + other perks are worth it over competitors overall and are why I’ve kept my subscription.

Not a fan of getting dinged $37 for a late payment fee. One perk that should be added is a late payment grace period- 2-3 days at most.

Another perk should be some kind of Prime membership renewal discount for every year beyond 1 year, or even a membership fee freeze after a certain number of years you’ve been a Prime member.

Also perhaps some kind of statement credit for ‘x’ amount of consecutive on time payments.

I personally have the Prime VISA secured card through Synchrony. Love it. I don’t have a lot of credit and what I do isn’t exactly perfect (I’m disabled, a mom, and on an extremely low fixed income). My card…I love it.

My dad, however, had the card issued by Chase. He asked me to order some things for him since I have Prime and he doesn’t. He needed a heated throw and some other items for himself and his brother whom he was providing and of life care for. The transactions went through fine, and there was no issue. However, when it came time for my my Audible to renew, I didn’t have the funds in my account but would in a few days. I thought nothing of it. I live with my father, and he came knocking, asking me if I had bought anything on his card. No. Audible? Yes, I have a subscription but… Yes, it rolled over to the next card on file until it hit one with an available balance. The thing is, though, my father had his card turned off. Locked via the Chase app. And it processed a transaction from an account not his own, on a charge where that card number was never put as a payment method, etc. I had left it on my account because he had asked me to order things occasionally from Amazon for him because at times I could get it faster, or a coupon was available for me but not him, or because he just didn’t have time to seek out what was needed due to caring for my uncle…and because my father ALWAYS locks his cards when not in use. All I needed was his name & address, and an Amazon account, and any subscriptions I had/have would bill on his card whether it was on or off, unlocked or locked. Of course, it was an accident, and there was no issue between myself and my dad. However, he had a rather large credit line on the card and immediately closed the account (which was like pulling teeth bc no one seemed to know how to close the account, & he went through 5+ people before he could get the account closed). And, if I’m not mistaken, one or two of the orders I placed for him on the card also billed before he had a chance to turn the card on for them to process.

While I would love the higher percentage of cash back earned with the Chase card and the lack of an upfront investment required for the secured card… I think I’ll stick with my secured card until Chase can better their security. They even told my dad that they would reverse the charge so that it would bill to my account again, but they didn’t. He ended up paying for my Audible subscription for 1 month. I felt terrible about it, but he thanked me because what if it would’ve been anyone else who got their hands on his card #? Because finding someone’s address is super easy on the internet.
