I needed a fan to replace the 14 year old one that finally died on me and was no longer being manufactured.
This fan is in my living room and sits all the way across the room and is meant to cool me while on the couch, so I needed something with a powerful enough breeze that didn't sound like a jet engine. I was a little reluctant to purchase this fan because of the high price and small size. I have to say that I have been pleasantly surprised at both its power and its relatively low noise. I have never had to put it all the way up to its highest setting to feel the breeze adequately, and of course, the lower the setting, the quieter the sound. It's an attractive fan, the remote is wonderful (my first fan w/ a remote) and so far I am very happy. The only thing I have not tried yet is to take it apart to clean it, so I am hoping that will not be a chore.
