I bought this for the upstairs bedroom in my 1 1/2 story house. It's the hottest room in the house, and we have hot summers, so sleeping up there in summer was miserable. I have a brand new HVAC system in the house, but it's just hard to cool down an upstairs bedroom with vaulted ceilings. My HOA doesn't allow a window a/c unit, so I was looking for an alternative that wouldn't break the bank.

Set-Up:
This unit was easy to set up and worked right out of the box - nothing to put together on the unit aside from snapping in the hose to the back. It came with the window venting kit and all hardware and foam insulation to get a good seal for the vent hose in the window. It took me less than 30 minutes to get the window kit installed, and that included cleaning my window and window sill. Then you just snap on the hose and turn it on. There's a handy YouTube video to help you figure this out, but honestly it is pretty intuitive.

Window venting:
I vented the hose out of a small narrow window, so the width of my window (23 inches) made using the enclosed window sliders tricky. Using just one slider was too short by about 4 inches, but adding the second slider meant it overlapped the hole cut-out for the hose, so I had to cut down the second slider. This was just one cut and easy to do with a miter saw, but it won't even be necessary if you choose a normal size window to vent your hose instead of using a narrow window like I did. I was just trying to avoid using the casement windows for the hose, and the narrow window was the only double-hung window in that bedroom.

Size:
The hardest part was getting it up the stairs. While it's on wheels snd easy to move around, it is heavy and bulky. My son helped me carry it up the steps, which made it much easier. Once it was upstairs, it sat in the corner and did its job without taking up much room.

Function:
So far, it works great. It cools off the bedroom so it's much more comfortable up there. It's quieter than a box fan, even with the fan turned up to the highest setting, but still blows cold air with a strong amount of pressure. The remote control is easy to use. We haven't tried the dehumidifier function yet.

It does need to be drained of water every few days, but this is easy to do. Again, there's a handy YouTube video to show you how to do this and clean the filters, but if you can drain a cooler, you can drain this unit. Just unscrew the knob and remove the drain plug so it drains into a bucket or drain pan - takes about 60 seconds to do.

While I was a little leery of buying a refurbished model, this has worked great so far. It was shipped in original packaging and appeared brand new with all stickers and packing tape still on it. And it was way cheaper and faster to install than a minisplit. Overall, I'm happy with it and glad we bought it.
