I was sold what appears to be a leased phone

The phone itself is fine, although somewhat bulkier folded than I expected. The battery life is just OK.

The major issue is that when I go to unlock the phone to switch to another carrier on the same network, I get unlock error 6, which apparently indicates a leased phone! I don't know whether they're selling stolen phones or what (I think the vendor here is WILZEE). I got a T-mobile phone because I intend to continue using the T-mobile network, and there was no indication that it was a leased phone. Will update in a when I get some followup with results.
