I needed something to deal with a doggie accident where resolve + hand scrubbing wasn't doing the trick. This carpet cleaner did a very good job on that and cleaning my carpet. The unit is easy to use and very easy to take apart and clean. I was able to hose it down in my sink when I was done to deal with all the hair it picked up. The water tank will last about 2 large bedrooms and it includes enough for 2 loads. The cleaning solution worked well and didn't smell too bad.
If you only care about cleaning carpet and not furniture, then this unit is probably overkill. The hose attachment and extra "Oxy spot cleaner" are something I question I'll ever use and they add weight to the unit. I think this brand also makes a cheaper, lighter, simpler model that supposedly works just as well on carpet. This device isn't too heavy, especially for only using it every half year or so, but it's a little unwieldy. If you're elderly and will be hauling this up and down stairs, consider the lighter version.
