A great WiFi extension
Recently I updated my Wifi home system to fiber and it uses this EERO Mesh router. The current router did not each my shed outside and I wanted a signal out in the shed while working there. I got this refurbished router and it works GREAT. The signal is strong with the router inside the window facing the shed. It work just the ay I had hoped and fully recommend to anyone who has fiber and wants an extension outside the home.

I have CenturyLink/Quantum Fiber and their 360 wifi node had no power cord and the whole thing had to be plugged into the wall which for me was inconvenient. The eero is tiny and works perfectly with CenturyLink's equipment and same speeds. Have a tiny place so more than adequate. Impressed. Easy to setup and control.

About a year ago I purchased a eero mesh wifi router system consisting of three (3) parts. One failed after a few months, so I ordered another replacement and opted for the refurbished. Amazon was GREAT and refunded a portion of my money on the failed router and applied it to the refurbished router, making it essentially free with a small refund to my account. Not only that, but this refurbished router has worked perfectly with no problems whatsoever. Highly recommended.

You cannot — REPEAT: CAN. NOT. — use this as a standalone router without an existing router FIRST. This is not plug & play like any other router on the market. I spent half an hour on the phone with tech support who kept telling me he didn’t know how to do it without an existing modem/router and that it wouldn’t activate.

Details:

Bought this for my daughter’s dorm; they have WiFi but it’s not super strong, so they have Ethernet cables in each room and each person is encouraged to have their own routers for strong connections for their devices. Bought this because Amazon products are typically great and it was small to tuck into a corner.

Plugged it in, connected the Ethernet cable (which works instantly when plugged directly into her laptop), downloaded the app, and walked through the guided steps on the app. Multiple tries, even with the wired setup instructions, and it didn’t work.

It wants you to connect the Eero to your EXISTING WIFI ROUTER FIRST, then remove your router and replace it with the Eero. EXISTING ROUTER. You have to ALREADY have internet service FIRST — having a modem FIRST — to then REPLACE it with this.

You CANNOT plug this into an Ethernet cable, set up your network, and go like every single other WiFi router on the market.

So I paid more than double for nothing. Returned it, bought a $30 ugly Netgear router, and set it up within minutes. What a horrid business model, to create a device that requires you to have another service first. Dumb.

So if you already have a modem and want to switch? You may love it.

If you are creating a brand new network, don’t waste your money.

My local internet provider repair guy recommended this unit when every time I got on my computer in the other room, the wifi would cut out in the living room. He checked our system and said everything checked out. So, I bought this Certified Refurbished Amazon eero mesh WiFi router and am happy I did. No more grief from the living room. I live in a walkout basement apartment, that was advertised as having high speed internet. It was high speed upstairs, but where I am I was lucky to get 7 mbps download. The eero got it up to from 60 to over 100. I work remotely and need fast internet, so this was worth the price. Landlords didn’t pay for it, but not a problem as I can take it with me if I eventually live somewhere else where I need it.
