I guess there's a market for monitors that double in as TVs?

I guess there's a market for monitors that double in as TVs?
Been mostly using this as a monitor for work-related stuff, so I'll be focusing on the monitor-side of things rather than the "TV that runs on Tizen" side of things. As a monitor, it's pretty good. It is a VA panel, but I've found from using IPS vs VA 4K panels, it's honestly not bad apart from white colors feeling a little bit gray. If you do use this just as a monitor, the rest of the Smart TV stuff actually doesn't get in the way that much, it's actually pretty seamless.Since this is a "Smart TV in the form of a monitor" (not sure if that's more accurate or "monitor that's also a Smart TV"), it comes with a controller. Samsung put solar panels on the back of the controller in addition to the USB-C charging port, so I guess depending on where you put the controlle ryou might never have to charge it. It's pretty easy to use and in a monitor perspective the signal works fine between the controller and the monitor, but I wasn't able to test the extremes of the controller's signal to the monitor.USB-C shows up as 60W for both a Macbook Pro 14in and a Thinkpad T14s G4, so technically it's not the "65W claimed" but I'm not going to discount any points for that, it's really dependent on the USB-C power delivery support. USB ports on the back is only USB2, this isn't a major issue, besides if you had a normal USB-C cable (w/ display support) the USB would've been USB2 speeds anyways to maintain 4k60hz.Webcam is actually pretty good, at least better than the 1080p webcam on the Thinkpad T14s G4. It does have scan lines though when I tested it in the Windows camera application. It's not significant, but it's a heads up to note. The integration is also pretty cool. The module is a USB-C module, but to attach it to the monitor, there's an additional adapter that adheres via a pogo pin connection, and it's secured by magnets. The camera cover is something you manually remove on/off, but is also secured magnetically. Keep in mind, by default the USB device setting is "auto". This means if you're connected via USB-C, it will switch the USB (including the webcam) back to the USB-C device only when you exit out of the TV mode. Another nice thing is an ambient light sensor for autobrightness. It seems to work okay, I've never had to adjust the display brightness.Downsides, the first is the massive power brick. Unfortunately I guess for size purposes, Samsung didn't integrate the power supply to the monitor, but rather used a giant power brick. I guess since this is kind of a "monitor/Smart TV hybrid" Samsung was worried you might place it where a power port isn't nearby? The second downside is the lack of a USB KVM. Okay this is a bit of a nitpick, but given there's only 2 display outputs, the USB ports are only useful if you're connecting through a USB-C device or to the monitor itself as a standalone. At the end of the day, if you got this thing and wanted to use it as a monitor and monitor only, it will work perfectly fine. If you actually want the Smart TV experience, then even better I guess? The $700 price tag at the time of this review however, you can buy a 32in 4K monitor and a 55in 4K smart TV for the same amount of money, if not less. At this price point, you can get a mini LED monitor for less price. If this monitor fits your needs perfectly I would wait until there's a sale, because it's not worth it at the current price.

I am near engulfed into the Samsung ecosystem (Phone, TV, my main monitor all Samsung) so I am happy to write this review and confirm Samsung did great with this one. There are a lot of features, it is a smart monitor after all, with all the necessities right in it.

    Setup:
It came with everything I needed, power, usbc, hdmi, some other miscellaneous cables and the remote. Since I have a Samsung phone I was easily able to set up the monitor with that and tie it to my Samsung account. It automatically connected to my wifi through phone setup and I am able to control the monitor with my phone as well as the (awesome solar powered) remote control. It gives you two other options to setup which I'm sure are simple as well. It easily mounted on my existing VIVO monitor mount too. It also has a camera that clips super easily to the top and THANKFULLY comes with a privacy blocker on it, great looking camera too.

    Features:
It's got a whole app store you can go through, which I've used on my TV and can say it works as it should with a wide variety of apps. Even the fitness apps are great! I enjoy putting on the Samsung TV Plus app where it's basically free cable, a lot of older shows are on there but my partner and I have watched hours and hours of Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen, etc haha. I personally don't use streaming services on this but glad it has all the major players included, especially with the Gaming hub where you can connect your Xbox Game Pass, Luna, GeForce account and do the streaming straight to it without any console (or computer for that matter). That is a game changer as this is an expensive monitor, but being able to connect your controller to it and stream full games means this is basically a console in itself. Even has built in speakers too!

4k is very crisp on this, great colors and brightness gets very high and are very customizable to your exact taste (my pic doesn't even do it justice). It has a game mode where you can add a virtual crosshair, change response times, HDR, etc. It's worth mentioning that the refresh rate is 60HZ so if you are an ultra competitive twitch shooter gamer (ie Counter Strike, Valorant) you may want something with a higher refresh rate, I come from a 200hz so it's definitely noticeable but perfectly sufficient for most people. If you like cinematic single player games, nice looking coop games, or are an avid 4k movie enjoyer then this is great for you (just be sure you have a good machine if you are running intensive games at 4k). Everything looks so amazing on here. Pro tip: Get some animated 4k wallpapers on Wallpaper Engine and you'll be blow away.

    Overall:
I am extremely happy with this monitor. While it is expensive, it looks, runs, and performs great and as expected! I like that it has enough features that you can get a lot of use out of it even without a PC or other device attached to it. If you're looking for a high end monitor to pair with your PC or console, this is a great choice and I would easily recommend it!

Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
I was ready to hate this monitor. I did a review on the previous model, the M80C, and was quite critical of the features. I was rather expecting more of the same from this one. Picture quality has always been a plus for the model and that continued through to the new one I received for review.
Knowing already what I hated about the previous model, I went directly at those features expecting to see the same behavior. I was disappointed in a good way I guess, and somewhat encouraged that the gremlins that had plagued the older versions had finally been addressed. So, from there, I just used it as my main monitor for a few weeks.
Coming from a gaming monitor with a super-wide aspect to a 4:3 squarish ratio was a bit of a jolt. My other monitors are all sub 4K so those extra pixels were pretty great, especially while consuming media. Far more full resolution playbacks are available with this aspect.
Gaming is very good as long as you have the hardware to push 4K at a reasonable frame rate. I played some StarCraft, No Man's Sky, Star Citizen, and Assetto Corso. I had never played these games in 4K and while frames were hit by around 10% over my 1440P display, all of the extra pixels make it more than worth it.
I like the remote, trad monitors do not have them and the power buttons can be fiddly. That may still one of my nitpicks, but I don't have more than one of these where I am. My previous review was based on units purchased for my clients, with 4 in the same office and 2 in another. Whenever one person turned theirs on or off, all the others were also controlled. It took a low-tech solution of pointing the remote through a tube of paper towels. That cost them numerous hours of lost productivity. There has to be a better way Samsung.
I run this monitor via a USB-C cable out of my GPU. On the previous models, I was not able to use the built in webcam in windows unless did some really silly looking wiring shenanigans. It did not work in Windows via the built in magnetic connection. It does now. Camera quality is good, 1080P, though.
The Smart TV functions just are not appealing to me. I tested Disney + just to say I had tried the features, but I prefer the Windows format for selecting my media and going full screen when I want to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing quality and resolution, a real treat as a monitor

Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
WOW. That was such a treat the first time I had something displaying on it. This Samsung 32 Inc M8 White UHD Smart Monitor is really great.

The clarity and resolution is amazing. What a treat! First thing I did was seek out some 4K footage on YouTube and I was blown away. I also have an NVIDIA graphics card which supports 4K.

Assembly was easy. The base is very heavy but quite thin, maybe 1/8” thick. It is also very non-slip. So rotating this if needed isn’t going to be easy. I might have to put it on a turntable for the times I have to turn the angle. The adjustment up and down is good and it stays put. Pivoting to portrait orientation is a great option to have, I used to love being able to do that years ago when I just had two monitors, but now with three, my space for manoeuvring is quite limited.

There aren’t a lot of choices on the back for connecting to a desktop computer. For me, it was HDMI and that’s it. I’m not using a laptop and so far, support for USB-C isn’t really happening on desktop motherboards and GPUs.

I have a three-monitor setup and ended up having to buy another cable for one of the other monitors since the M8 took over the HDMI spot that one was using.

When you first turn it on, it walks you through a setup for connecting to your Samsung account, Amazon (for Alexa), and whatever other accounts you have. It also goes through some other settings for their built-in system.

So I now have this big one in the middle with two 24-inch monitors either side. My other two are set at 1920x1080 and this new one is 3840x2160. My setup is such that I can drag a window from one monitor to another. It used to be seamless when I had three set at the same resolution, but I’m finding that my system struggles a bit as it switches resolutions on the window I’m dragging between monitors. It’s no fault at all of the new Samsung, it’s just a practical reality of what I’m doing. The window just stops momentarily as I’ve entered the lower-resolution monitor once about 1/5th of it passes into that monitor, then it adjusts and I can continue dragging it over to the lower res monitor. There is no delay in the other direction (dragging from the lower res monitor to the M8’s high resolution).

Using the remote is intuitive and useful. If I want to tell my monitor something while addressing Alexa, I can just speak while holding down the mic button on the remote. This allows me to talk to it without using the trigger word which would then wake up my Alexa Show that’s sitting right beside me.

The speakers are okay, a little tinny in sound, but it’s nice to have built in speakers – one less thing on my desk but it is not going to compete with our surround sound stereo system.

It’s easy to switch between the built-in applications like Prime Video, Netflix, Samsung TV Plus, and Disney+ and then switch back again to my computer desktop, but it takes clicking a few buttons.

The webcam is cool, it connects magnetically. I do wish it had a privacy cover though.

A couple of times I’ve had a message on my screen, I don’t remember the circumstances, but it flashed a big message that was useless to me. I’ve attached a screenshot of it. It wants you to go download and install some .msi file. I use Linux, so that’s of no use to me. That window popping up is trouble sometimes as when I first start my computer and my desktop loads, I’m asked for a password for my system and that window blocks me from being able to enter my password in time before I lose my chance. The fallout from that is very annoying but I won’t go into detail here about the trouble that causes. I’ve managed to check the box with the remote to not show again, so hopefully that’ll be the end of that problem.

I do wish it was more of a monitor than a computer itself. Using the apps means I’m cut off from stereo system, there’s no way for me to plug it into the M8, as good as our system is, it was before Bluetooth. I also don’t know what else it’s up to. I haven’t found where to mute the built-in mic, and as I said, the webcam has no privacy cover. These concerns are just my opinion, for others, they will have more use for those features and not share my concerns.

Overall, I am VERY happy and love this monitor and highly recommend it.
