Moved into an old home on the second floor and in the afternoon to early evening it’s hot. Almost settled for 6,000 but decided to overshoot the btu calculations by 2500 due to poor insulation. It works great tstat outside my door read 82 and I was comfortable in my room. I did hook up the drain line but since air is already dehumidified from main unit not much water at all.

Cools well, makes motor hum rattle noise during fan startup

The unit cools well and works great when it is fully going, but makes a loud hum and bearing rattle noise during startup. Sometimes it will startup nice and quiet and smooth and other times it will not. Not sure what think of this, as returning it would very hard for me. I had to have it setup from someone else having hernias. By the way, my brother has the same unit and his does not sound like this during fan startup. I will see what happens in the future. On the fence on this one.

Update: I contacted the seller about this situation and asked if this was normal and would go away and they told to try different things to see if it would correct it. It did not and they refunded my money. Was very surprised at this. What a nice thing for the seller to do. I did watch YouTube videos to see if I could repair the fan motor itself. My brother is a AC technician and I always worked with him, I am obsessed with things that make refrigerant and cold air. I was able to get apart, and what a pain in the butt it was to get it apart, but was able to. I was able to use 30 weight synthetic oil into the bearing using a spout to get them. It quieted it right down and runs smooth now. I hope it lasts. Thank you seller for excellent customer satisfaction! I really had to work to get it to this point. I am glad it is over and now able to use it. I am still nervous to run it more than 3 hours, but cools a tiny bedroom and gets it frigid cold before that time is up.

Works great with a few adjustments

It needs an opening window to vent, so plan for that. I have it in a space slightly larger than it’s meant for, and after some slight adjustments it’s done a great job keeping it comfortable when the temperatures are above 90° and high humidity (I live in the deep south US).

The machine puts out a ton of heat through its vent, and the hose lets a lot of that heat radiate out. I wrapped mine in foil and taped all the connection points sealed. This reduced the heat significantly.

The unit can put out a lot of water, especially if the humidity is high. It’ll fill a gallon jug in no time if you aren’t watching.

The extra work can be a pain, others might rate it 3/5 for these reasons but it’s done such a good job cooling that I give it 4/5.

Easy to Set Up, Works Like A Dream

I waited until I had this for a month. Couldn't be happier with it. I took it out of the box and set it up in 3 minutes. There is a hose to pull out the hot air. You twist one end into the exhaust, snap that into the window slat attachment. Open the window, place the slat in and close the windo to hold it in place. Twist the other end of the hose into the attachment for the machine, snap that into the air conditioner. Turn on and in about 3 minutes, there is frosty air pouring out. No tools needed. It took me longer to write this than it did to get the machine out of the box and working. I only wanted it to cool one corner of a large room that had no central vents and was surrounded by windows. But it cools the whole room. Very pleased.

Tried to use it to replace a 6k BTU air conditioner tjdt was aging, but this only works when it wants to. Worked great for a few days. I have the water drain hose hooked up permanently draining it through the floor. Rather than a window vent, I have a 6-in exhaust going directly out the wall straight from the back of the AC. So no kinks, no bend, no obstructions and after a couple of hours it will start blowing hot air like a furnace. If I reboot the AC it works for a couple of hours no problem, If I'm in my home office and I can continually reboot it every couple of hours, the office is amazingly cool, however, if I'm not there to catch it when the thermostat fails, it'll turn into a heater and my room will be 130° when I return. We happen to be going through a current heatwave so I can't afford to return it now, So I'm just going to limp along, rebooting it and trying to monitor the temperature with my smart home heat sensors and just continue to check on it until I can afford to replace it with a different unit and don't have any down time without AC.
