Was surprisingly easy to slip on my mattress and fit perfectly over my mattress and mattress topper. It opens up wide enough to just be able to fit my topper on without having to take off the entire case. Seems to be fairly sturdy. I did a 24hr water test before putting it on my bed and no seeped through the plastic. The only issue I have is there tends to be a balloon effect when I lay in bed where the side that isn’t being laid on will puff up some but will easily go down with a little weight or pressure without stressing the material.

I haven't attempted to put a cover like this on a mattress before alone, and perhaps it was the size and weight of the mattress that made this super difficult, but I wrestled with it for 4 hours, and it was finally on. It could be because the mattress is a pillowtop and is really thick, but it finally got in there, with just a small split to the seam above the zipper closure. Slept like a baby last night, so either the cover is great for protections and doesn't affect comfort, or I was exhausted from the workout the cover gave me. Either way, it is a really good product for the price.
