Totally useless. This was useful in the past to clear out visa gift cards. This being $5 is just straight up useless and just another sign of being cheap and greedy!!! Why!!!

This used to be how I would use the last little bits of leftover money from prepaid cards. I rely heavily on gig work, and therefore have MULTIPLE prepaid cards on which I receive payment, in addition to my regular bank account.

I drive a great deal for that work, and I also sometimes shop for *other* people, so I like to shop for myself on Amazon when I can. Ok. I actually *primarily* shop on Amazon; like, it's a TON. No one comes to my home more than the Amazon delivery van, alright?

ANYway, sometimes I let those little amounts accumulate (trust me, the small amounts add up, & obviously I also use my regular debit in conjunction, but I have money spread out on 6 different *other* prepaid cards just right now). Other times, I'll just apply whatever small amount to one of the many, *many* (yes, I know I have a problem) purchases I make on Amazon.

With the new $5 minimum, it defeats the entire purpose for me. Now I have no way to add those little amounts to my account, which means (Amazon, please pay attention- this part is important) I won't be spending that money ON AMAZON.

I'm EXTREMELY displeased and disappointed with this new requirement. Come on, Amazon- you're supposed to make it EASIER to give you all my money!

Go back to the one dollar min for the gift cards. This is going to cost amazon in the long run. I used the one dollar to get the number of purchases needed to satisfy the requirement for my bank to get the higher interest rate. this way we could use the money for items we needed and get the benefit and use the money for things we needed. As the items we bought were items we can get local but individually added up to more than the dollar it was also convenient not to have to go purchase them. Now we will purchase the items local and not at Amazon. Oh how the mighty have fallen to the power of the all mighty profit margins. My spending with amazon just got seriously reduced.

I use Amazon gift cards for all of my Amazon spending because it’s a great way to keep track of what I’m spending and what I’m spending it on; it also makes it quicker to get money from returns. I always add money in $100 increments, so I don’t get why people are freaking out about raising the minimum to $5 — I’m kind of surprised it’s that low. If I had ever thought about it, I would have guessed it was something like $15 or $25. It would never occur to me to add less than $25 — it doesn’t seem worth the effort. I read the reviews when I saw the low rating the gift card got and I couldn’t imagine what kind of negative reviews there could be about something so basic. It sounds like people are complaining about Amazon making it harder to use up other companies’ gift cards. I rarely use gift cards other than Amazon’s, but it never occurred to me to add low balances to another gift card. I’ve always used them as a split payment at the grocery store or my husband uses it at the gas pump, so it doesn’t seem like raising the limit is a big deal. If you want to add low gift card balances to an Amazon gift card don’t spend the gift card down below $5. Amazon’s gift cards are easier to use than any others I’ve used over the years and I really appreciate how the amounts subtracted are linked to an order number. I always had a hard time tracking order amounts when I used my credit card because they would charge amounts as they shipped and orders don’t normally ship all at once, so there would be a bunch of charges that didn’t line up with order amounts. Using the gift card makes it a lot easier to track things. Amazon gift cards are also my only choice if I’m gifting someone a gift card because you have so many choices of things to buy in every price range imaginable . I’ve gotten a number of gift cards over the years from employers, etc., where the amount is less than almost everything the store sells, which is annoying—you either have to spend your own money on something you don’t really want or need or the whole gift card amount goes to waste.

BAZILLIONS IN PROFITS and yet you can't leave gift card access available for poorer people alone! It's our dollars and cents, here and there that made Amazon. I sucked up all the Prime increases, Kindle Unlimited increases, every kind of bloodsucking, prime video ads, next day delivery is not happening AND NOW I can't add small amounts to my card to spend WITH YOU!?! I have been an Amazon customer since there were only books to buy! SICKENING!

Manage your budget
Add any amount to your Amazon Gift Card balance to create a budget. Then, use your balance to keep track of your spending on Amazon. lies, lies it says we need to add $5 or more that's no budget last month I could add 1 dollar or 50 cents now it won't allow me to add whatever I want I use vanilla gift cards and I add the amount that is left to the Amazon gift card so when I have enough I buy stuff and now it say I need to put $5 or more not cool.

I don't understand why you need a $5.00 minimum, reducing the minimum to $0.01 would guarantee that your business would get any small amount left over in debit cards. Oh well, your loss, those little bits will be spent elsewhere and not in Amazon. Did anybody in your business do a customer survey on this increased minimum? By the reviews you're getting I judge not. Bad job, Amazon!!

Amazon used to be customer-friendly, but random changes like this - increasing the minimum amount for reloading a gift card to $5 - are very regrettable. It was so helpful to be able to charge the exact amount I needed to add to my giftcard balance, now I can't do that anymore! When I had a small balance left on a visa or mastercard gift card, I would always add it to my Amazon balance - now it's impossible to use them to shop on Amazon since there is no option to split payment between two cards. Reloading my Amazon balance was the only way to do that. So much for listening to your customers and putting them first. I'm actively looking for another online marketplace to use instead; good luck Amazon!

I have numerous credit cards on account with Amazon with one marked as the default card, however, whenever Amazon charges my account for an automatic gift card reload they change the default card to another card that isn’t designated as the default. This is very frustrating as the money is being taken out of the wrong account.
