I got this lens for a trip to Iceland this summer as I knew we'd be seeing puffins. I wanted to have a lens that would be able to capture the little guys without scaring them, so needed a little more length.
I'm attaching a photo I took of a puffin - straight from the camera and (fairly minimally) post-processed. This was taken on my Sony A7ii (f/6.3, ISO 50, 1/160 at 300mm)
Not only is this lens ultralight compared to most lenses of this length, the quality of the images speak for themselves. The autofocus is snappy and mostly accurate. I maybe missed one or two shots, but also landed some that I really shouldn't have of other birds in flight.
If you're a professional bird photographer, this probably isn't the lens for you, but you knew that already.
If you're an advanced amateur looking for something that'll get the job done yet still keep your kit light (while keeping your bank account a little happier), you've found your next lens.
