Smooth white noise.
4 Stars
Smooth white noise.
Quick read: Attractive, quiet, large bucket, nice control panel, some very minor assembly. Air flow is side discharge and angled slightly downward towards the floor. You can point the stream of dehumidified air in the direction you want it to go by turning the machine but there are no vertical air adjustments. Uses R410A refrigerant and not R32 for some reason. Easy access to evaporator coil for cleaning. Humidistat is very accurate on my sample. This machine uses a measured 390 to 400 watts. At my summer rates of 0.1154 cents a kilowatt, if it ran 24 hours a day for 30 days, with the compressor always engaged it would cost $33.23 a month to run. I use it an hour a day so for me it's $1.38 a month. Overall it feels well made. I'd buy it again. Will it last? I don't know. The reliability of these things has been in a steep decline since the 1990's. This is now the only consumer purchase I will buy the warranty for.Details: This is my fifth dehumidifier and I like it the most. Compressor was noisy on the first start up for the first couple of hours then there were no rattles, buzzing or weird noises. Just the steady whoosh of air without any variations in pitch. Noise is a pretty subjective subject. The quality of the sound is so steady and smooth I quickly tune it out. The gentle thud of the compressor kicking in and out is barley detectable. My sound comments are based with the machine on a carpeted floor. It's a little louder on tile. Attractive and feels well made. Very large bucket. I like the control panel, it offers lots of flexibility. In the Comfort mode it will try to maintain a 50% humidity level. I can also set it to run continuously. Or set it to run continuously with the timer. The timer is two stage. If the machine is running I can set it for when I want it to stop. Plus I have the option of also setting it for when I want it to restart again. If the machine is off, the timer can be set to turn it on with the option of also setting it to turn itself off again. The last run option is to put the humidistat in control of the dehumidifier and it will cycle on and off based on the set point. A word about humidistat control. When the desired humidity level is reached, the compressor kicks off and the blower continues to run for an additional 3 minutes, (drying out the evaporator coil). Drying out the evaporator coil puts humidity back into the air. Enough humidity that in a small room it (plus the detected moisture in the machine) will force the dehumidifier to restart a couple of minutes later. It then becomes this endless start, stop cycle. Very annoying. I use a small fan blowing on the humidistat (top right corner of air filter area at the edge of evaporator coil) to stop the humidistat from being triggered by the moisture in the dehumidifier. Comfort comments. This machine raises my bedroom temperature about 2 degrees an hour, (pleasing in the winter, annoying in the summer). All 5 of my past dehumidifiers would give us pretty nasty headaches if the blower was facing us. This thing is a bit overpowered for a bedroom (11x12) but it's the quietest in the series. Both the larger 50 pint and the smaller 20 pint are noisier (based on Midea documentation). The larger 50 pint is substantially more efficient than this but it's way too much for a small room. That would be my choice for a basement. I am OCD about keeping evaporator coils clean to keep the units efficient and hoping to discourage mold growth. This is the first dehumidifier I've ever owned that gives you easy access to the evaporator coil without having to take the thing apart. Yay! I still put a foam air conditioning filter on top of the built in filter out of habit and sealed up some air leaks under the machine. The extra filter does make it slightly more vulnerable to icing up with the slightly reduced airflow. Kwik Kut 15”x24” foam filters are available at my local Ace Hardware stores for $1.99.I love this thing. The only two things I would change would be for Midea to figure out a way to stop all the false restarts from internally detected moisture. The other being a timer modification to allow for endless restarts and shut downs. I want to be able to set it for any continuous timed value I wanted. Like being able to set if for 30 minutes on and then 30 minutes off, until the water tank is full. That was a common function in the 1990's on Goldstar brand dehumidifiers.UPDATE: 5/3/21 Measured power consumption is up to 419 watts.UPDATE: 5/15/22. Not very effective once temperatures fall into the upper 60’s. If you wanted it for a basement I’d pick something else.

I started using this a few weeks ago and it’s made a world of difference in my home’s humidity level. It doesn’t take long after turning it on to knock down the level. It’s a nice size, has wheels which helps with relocating, easy to set up, and it’s appearance isn't an eye sore. Mine is in the basement, set up with the internal pump/hose to continuously drain into my sump pump. Overall very efficient and great quality product. My favorite feature is being able to control it from my cell phone! The app allows you to check the humidity level, power off/on, ensure the pump is on, etc. Puts your mind at ease being able to control it, especially when you’re not home.

3000 Square foot coverage. White. Our house in the summer is extremely damp. We have french drains all around outside our home. Our HVAC company suggested a dehumidifier be installed but the cost was ridiculously high. We originally thought we would try this to see if it helped and then have one put in but this was relatively inexpensive and pulls 2-3 gallons daily when it’s rainy or there is high humidity outside. If we relied on our air conditioning to remove the humidity from our home it would be running constantly and we would freeze In our own home in the summer. This is very energy efficient, works great, very durable, not too big as to be a problem placing it somewhere and easy to move on the 4 wheels. It is a little noisy but after two years I don’t even notice it anymore. The filter is easy to access and clean. Easy to remove and dump the fill section. I purchased a hose and when we are gone overnight I move the dehumidifier closer to my walk-in shower so it can continuously drain. We have had so much rain this year that I decided to get a second unit to place on the other side of the house. We have an 85 years old home-it’s not an open floor plan, so the first humidifier needs a little bit of a helper this year. It is still pulling the same amount of water as it always has. The current unit arrived quickly and in great shape so I would also expect the one I order today (Saturday) to arrive on time Monday. Well worth the price-I definitely recommend this dehumidifier.

I live in Northern California, and for the most part due to low rain, and drought in the past, didn't have much high humidity to speak of. This year has been very different, with a lot of warm rain every few days and weeks, bringing in 99%, and 100% humidity days for a pretty long stretch.
So much so, I noticed a very large increase of indoor humidity too. So I got to looking into a seasonal type dehumidifier to help out.

Enter the Midea 1,500 Sq. Ft. Energy Star Certified Dehumidifier.
I purchased it January 28, 2024, and have been getting used to the way it works for the past two weeks.
Dang, what a difference. After doing some further reading on how long to run it at first, I opted to let it do it's thing for the first 48 hours. Then, run it for 12 hours from mid morning to early evening when the indoor humidity levels were the highest.
I don't run it on turbo mode, or comfort mode, or continuous mode.
The level has been set at 40%, and it keeps the indoor RH at 40%.

Okay enough of that boring stuff, on to the good part of the review.
The unit is compact, easy to set up, and straight foreword to operate.
I like that it is on wheels to move around if needed easily.
So far I have kept a close eye on the water reservoir, and empty it out when it gets about half full. At first that was twice a day, but as the house has dried out, down to once a day.
So all in all, I myself would recommend it based on my experience so far.

Okay, other stuff.
I read other reviews mentioning leakage. I have not so far had that issue, but I did pick up a catch pan to place underneath just in case. Not sure if this tip is helpful, but before emptying the water bucket, I'll tip the unit forward to let additional water drain out first.

Other reviews mention the fan is loud. Perhaps it is a bit, but not any more loud than running the AC fan in the summer, and certainly not excessively loud. This unit was designed to move air and circulate in a 1,500 square foot space, and it does a bang up job of it.

I've only had it for about two to three weeks so I can't speak to it's longevity, but really these days appliances aren't built for and don't really last for decades anyways. They're all disposable, and that's the way it is.

The house is perceptively less humid, feels great, and that weird winter time musty aroma that would occasionally seep up from the crawl space has vanished.

With all that said... It's up to you, but I'd give this one a shot.

Got this unit as a warehouse deal for about $90 off the regular price. I was a bit hesitant but it was worth it since II was able to get a bigger capacity unit for a better price.
The unit arrived in its original packaging and the box had a bit of damage. Unboxing the unit it did not appear to have been used
I have had it running for 3 months now and it is working perfectly fine. The first 2 months I was emptying the bucket every 8 hours but recently I had my plumber connect the pump discharge tube to the drainage system in my basement so the unit now gets rid of the water on it's own.
I have to say, the WiFi functionality is very good. You need to download the Smart Home app and then follow the instructions to pair the unit. It wasn't too difficult and I figured it out without reading the instructions! My dad would have been proud.
