I just had to share my experience with the BISSELL Little Green Cleaner (Model 1400B). As a pet parent with two very active dogs, I was on the lookout for something that could tackle those inevitable messes on my carpets. Spoiler alert: this little machine did not disappoint!
What I Needed
With pets around, you know the struggle of keeping carpets clean—spilled food, occasional accidents, and the dreaded muddy paw prints. I needed something specifically for spot-cleaning stains and messes, and this seemed like a perfect fit.
Setting It Up
Right out of the box, setting up the BISSELL Little Green Cleaner was a breeze. I’m not the most tech-savvy person, but this was straightforward and user-friendly. Plug it in, fill up the tank, and you’re good to go.
First Impressions
I was pretty impressed with its cleaning power. It feels solid and does a great job lifting stains out of the carpet. You can actually see the dirt and grime getting sucked up, which is oddly satisfying!
Features I Loved
One of my favorite features is the Stain Trapper Tool on the handle. It’s a lifesaver! This tool traps the really nasty stuff (like pet urine or vomit) in a small, separate cup. You can pour it down the toilet without worrying about it contaminating the machine. No more lingering smells—a huge plus!
Cleaning Performance
It's pretty effective at cleaning different surfaces and types of stains. I’ve used it on everything from spilled coffee to my dogs' messes, and it handled all of it like a champ. I have no complaints here.
Maintenance
Cleaning and maintaining the machine is pretty simple. You empty the dirty water tank, rinse it out, and you’re done. It’s hassle-free, which I appreciate.
The Downside
The only issue I encountered was that the handle tended to leak water. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s something to be aware of. I make sure to have a towel handy when I’m using it to catch any drips.
Would I Recommend It?
Absolutely! Despite the minor leakage issue, the BISSELL Little Green Cleaner has been a great addition to my cleaning arsenal. It’s effective, easy to use, and perfect for pet owners dealing with frequent messes. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable spot cleaner.

It's OK - read about the stain trapper tool
Alright, so I am coming from the newer model (hydrosteam) and there's a very specific reason I did not like the newer model compared to this one. The solution tank for the new one is designed without threaded fittings -- it's just glued/epoxy'd on, and if it's leaking out of the factory, it's basically dead on arrival. On this, you have the tried and true design of the threaded fitting that is replaceable if the gaskets go bad. That was why I returned my hydrosteam and picked this unit up.Now, about the stain trapper tool. In theory, it's a cool concept. Wouldn't it really be nice to be able to pick up a mess without having to clean the hose every single time? Well, it turns out it doesn't really prevent fluids from getting through. See photo; my husky peed on a waterproof pad and I thought it'd be a perfect time to test this stain trapper tool. As you can see in the dirty water tank, some urine did get through, so the hose isn't gonna be getting saved from having to get rinsed after use. Due to the head being larger, you lose some suction so I'm not convinced I would be reaching for it anymore. Furthermore, my dog also peed on hardwood floors and it did a horrible job picking up from the ground. I think Bissell should design an attachment head with some silicone at the nozzle specifically for picking fluids up off the ground; it'd save me a lot of towels since my dog is having a lot of accidents after a major surgery.Now onto some other design features that I'm not so fond of: the tanks don't lock into the machine. You can lift them off without much force. The dirty water tank essentially relies on gravity, and suction when you turn the unit on, to form a seal. That said, you'd better wipe that seal at the outlet after every use and not let it get crusty; otherwise, you'll get some nasty drips in the future. The lid of the dirty water tank also has tiny thin gaskets that will be getting wet after every use, so it's more stuff to dry.Alright, now from the perspective of someone who already owns a big green Bissell: in a way, I feel like I wasted my money and should have stuck to using the hose attachment on my big green. It has superior suction to this and can easily pick stuff off of even hard floors. The lack of suction (in comparison) makes this unit only acceptable for quick pickups when my pet makes a mess and I don't have time for a deep clean, like in the middle of the night, but I always still have the nagging feeling that I will have to get the big Bissell out at the end of the week. I'll keep the device simply because of how lightweight this is in comparison to having to lug my large unit around to pick up a tiny mess, not to mention that hose is like 10 ft and unwieldly in comparison. I'll update this section with more thoughts after I've put it through some other tasks, like rug cleaning or something.
