Company sacrificing quality for price point
I have had a previous model for the last 10 years it was good quality. The reason for replacing was that the internal seals deteriorated causing slow loss of suction. The differences between this model and that is that is that there is no manual diverting mechanism between wand and floor. All section comes from wand at all times. Also 18ft of power wire was removed. So now I have to plug and un plug multiple times to complete vacuuming. Cord Length is a real issue. If costs were cut there. I'm afraid this vacuum may not last very long due to cuts in other places un seen like moter or bearings.

After quite a bit of online research, I chose the Simplicity for its well-thought out design and useful features. I live in a one-floor apartment and wanted a vacuume that was easy to operate, maneuver, and store. I looked at higher-end vacuumed (Miele, et al) but quickly decided that a canister model would be a pain to use and store as I have limited space. The Simplicity has built-in tools that are easy to access and use. The cord is extra long (30') and can reach my entire space without stopping to unplug/replug. The headlight is focused and powerful, and the exterior has rubber "bumpers" in all the right places to help protect furniture legs. The overall construction is very study with the use of aluminum in key components. The filters (Hepa as well!) are easy to access and change. Overall the use of the Simplicity is simple, logical and makes my weekly vacuuming chore a fun and satisfying experience. One minor negative: It's not too noisy, but it's definitely not quiet. This is a very small complaint that is shadowed by the 98% "very satisfied" score I give this vacuume. I believe the Simplicity will be with me for a long time.

I read somewhere you should vacuum one day for each person/pet that lives in the home. Well, I've got six kids, 5 of them boys, two dogs and two cats. The kids are older and the dogs are all well house trained but one sheds a LOT. We decided to replace the carpet and I needed a vacuum that works well. We've had a Rainbow vacuum for a few years now and I wanted a second vacuum with a bit more convenience of use. Here's how they stack up:

I vacuumed our front room, where we spend the most time and so does our shedding dog. I used the simplicity vacuum going over the carpet in all four directions. As far as I could tell, it maintained suction without any loss. As an upright, it lost out on a lot of the maneuverability compared to the Rainbow, and the cord was shorter so I had to stop a few times to free it from around furniture and move outlets. It was heavier and more of a struggle to push around when I was being that thorough. As an enjoyable experience, 3/10.

Then I went over it again in all four directions with the Rainbow. Instantly it was a lot easier to push the vacuum but you have to hold down the trigger for suction and after a while my wrist was aching. In the day to day, this is not likely to be a problem but I was trying to vacuum as best I could so I could compare the two. When I was finished, the water was dark brown, indicating the Simplicity had missed some dirt. It was hard to gauge exactly how much because it was in the water, but I would say there was a significant enough amount of dirt missed. There was not a lot of dog hair floating around, so the Simplicity apparently got most of that no problem. As a vacuuming experience, I give it a 8/10. After the carpet comparison, it was very easy to use the Rainbow to dust and do the baseboards, edges, and blinds. The Simplicity vacuum has parts that might do that too but the recoil on the tube makes that a huge headache and is far more work that way.

Overall with just vacuuming, the Rainbow was a better experience, with the added bonus of "cleaning" the air as well so I think it gets some of the dust and hair in the air that would normally settle after a while if using Simplicity.

But after vacuuming with the rainbow, I then had to clean it. You have to dump the water somewhere; we empty it into a bucket with holes in the bottom so the water goes out but the debris stay in, throw away the debris and dump the water outside on the lawn or gutter. Then you have to clean the bin. I think it's so so gross!! I clean the bin with vinegar, hot water, and a little bit of dawn dish soap to make it sanitary and avoid smells. Obviously with the bag vacuum there's none of that. When the bag is full I just replace it with an empty one and the cleaning is limited to using a cleaning wipe to wipe it down once in a while.

Over all, I think I'll use the Simplicity for day to day and the Rainbow, with it's much better abilities and more versatile attachments, for deep cleaning or when I have time to clean it after. We do use the carpet shampooer function and use it as an air filter with regularity and it does seem like it makes a difference with allergies in the house. The rainbow cost a butt load more, I'll tell you that, so it should be good for something. If you don't want to shell out that kind of money, the Simplicity does a fine job but it's more demanding physically.

First - our family is HARD on our vacuums. Buy the warranty and return it within a year at Best Buy-hard on vacuums. We have huskies and cattle dogs along with toddlers. We have killed many vacuums including Dysons, Sharks and Roombas.

I started looking for another option after our Shark Strateos kept leaving dog hair on our Ruggable. After a ton of research, I settled on this Simplicity model and am so happy. We are one month in and I’m still very happy. Even my husband, who gave me a little grief over buying “another” vacuum, loves it.

Pros:
-pretty lightweight for a plug in
-front light makes it easier to see dirt
-amazing suction
-doesn’t leave dog hair behind
-HEPA filter makes a big difference for allergies

Cons:
-loud

We only have area rugs, no carpeted rooms so I can’t speak to that. But if you have hard floors and have pets - this is the best vacuum you’ll buy in this range. Trust me - I’ve tried them all and they don’t hold a candle to this.

Worth the money.

I have thick shag carpet which is not new, and I wanted a vacuum that had very strong suction. This vacuum not only has great suction, but it is easy to maneuver and not very heavy. In addition, the price was great. My last vacuum was also a Simplicity and it lasted 24 years, so I love the brand.

Within months of owing this, it began falling apart. Bristles falling out of brush while vacuuming, it has become super loud, etc. And with only a month window to return, I was out of luck... Now it's barely been a year and when I use it lately, it has a strong burning smell!! I have NO idea what could be causing it, and am afraid the thing will combust on me one day. Very disappointed with this vacuum and wish I had never bought it!
