Needs simplification
This Uloway Large Button Mobile Phone will take many people back in time to when phone calls and texting were the only core functions of a handset. Out of the box the phone feels reasonably well made and the buttons are largish with a decisive feel and audible response. The colour display is a bit disappointing but usable and, given the target market of the phone, could benefit from using more contrasting colours as the white on blue, yellow and green can be hard to read. The user guide should also be larger.The phone can be charged via the mains adapter and charging cradle both of which are USB C equipped. The phone is also dual SIM equipped and has an SD slot too although I think these latter two features could be superfluous to a user of this kind of phone – the savings could be invested in a better display. Oddly, the phone uses the older standard SIM size rather than a micro or nano SIM but one adaptor is supplied.The SOS button on the rear of the phone is easy to programme and can be set for up to 9 text/call recipients handy. I feel the button could be bigger to ensure access in an emergency. I couldn’t find a predictive text facility when messaging though.A paradox of this phone is that it has too many superfluous functions for the category it’s in – simplicity should be the key but this phone has a voice recorder, video player, audio player, world clock, calendar, profiles and, perhaps, more helpfully a torch. My point is that the phone is bit cluttered with functions that detract from its simplicity which is key to its likely users although the menus are clear.I had to fiddle with the SIM to get it working and once it connected the call quality was quite reasonable on the EE network and the volume is good. Battery life is also impressive.In summary, this phone isn’t too bad in terms of performance, but it needs decluttering to make it simpler for its intended users.
