Soo easy to set up only just got it but it basically sets itself up, not tested it out yet due to the fact its 4am and i don't think the neighbours will be happy if i set the alarm off, but you can test the sensors without the alarm, well the motion Detector can find me in the hall when the sensor is in the lounge (going to be getting a few of them puppies) you can have 100 sensors paired to one base station, and its battery back up.. this is just fantastic... can tell my home is going to be bristling with stuff , if you want an easy to use alarm this is it, oh did i mention you can have it monitored as well?? You can have 24/7 monitoring, the only gripe I've got are the power cables aren't that long but a quick search and you can easily get longer cables ect.. but wow 👌 definitely recommend.. I'll update this after a few weeks and let you know how its going but so far... oh if you get camera's you can have perimeter alarms (so you know if people are sneaking round the garden)...

I got this in the prime day deals, nearly half price. First point of note, wait for prime day when most alexas, ring and other amazon devices usually have a steep discount!

I opted for the 5 piece kit and some additional cameras to kick off my security system. I do have a built in alarm in my house, this uses motion detectors in nearly every room and for the door to my garage, but having a dog and a parrot, I don't want to activate it when I go out as it will constantly be set off!

With this ring system it's so easy to tailor the elements that are active when I am out and have a different set of sensors active during the night. So it has 3 modes, disabled, home, and away. This is disabled during the day when I am home, then set to home mode when I go to bed, and obviously away when I go out. These modes are what sold me to the system as I originally just wanted the cameras but the privacy concerns of having these save to cloud was putting me off, this is where the modes come in!

Disabled - All cameras except the garage are disabled, this even stops the app from allowing you to live view the cameras without going through the settings to enable it's use. Some may find this irritating, I find it a plus, I wanted them disabled due to privacy. Primary entrances can also be set to "chirp" on the alarm when they are triggered, so opening the garage door or front door will play a sound to alert me of this opening, more than I need if I am home.

Home - I set this when I go to bed, this can enable select cameras around the home, certain sensors that I then wish to set off the alarm and leave some disabled (I have a dog, he wants to go in the garden during the night etc).

Away - Everything is enabled, all cameras are active, I can monitor what my dog is chewing when I go shopping, or have any nefarious activity recorded should that occur.

Setup was so simple, I already had a ring doorbell, and adding this to the overall ecosystem went through without a problem, kind of. The only issue I had was when I was adding a new device to the app, it first said wifi couldn't be connected to, so I refreshed the wifi list and hit connect, then it worked. Every item, everytime, I had to refresh the wifi and try again, but second attempt was always flawless so I can't dock points for that.

Based on the performance of my ring doorbell I have never once lost connection or had to go through a resetup process (this has been almost 12 months in use now). Another item I had in the box that I haven't actually needed to setup yet is the wifi extender, maybe I have been lucky with the location of each of the cameras and sensors, but nothing has needed it yet in my 3 bedroom house. At least it's there if I experience any issues.

There is one thing I take issue with though, and it's not to do with the product itself but the sneaky amazon listing. When I searched for this set, it was £140 in the prime day deal, this was for the 5 piece starter box, however in the options was a 5 piece + camera for the same price. I did select that and get what I think is an amazing deal, but that was easy to miss.

For the installation, the only item that needs to be screwed to the wall requiring some drilling is the main hub and keypad. Everything else uses sticky pads, although if you wish to mount a camera or motion sensor to wood or a wall/ceiling then you have the option to screw the mount in.

Summary of pros;
-Easy to setup
-Complete starter kit and easy to upgrade
-App works flawlessly for me
-Away from home monitoring with alerts to my watch and phone
-So easy to install!
-Mostly battery operated, the keypad has the option of being charged or running on a plug. The only item requiring a plug is the hub, everything else is on battery power which lasts months

Cons
-Maybe a bit pricey without the deals when you add all the extras (you'll want more cameras, door/window sensors, it won't stop with your original purchase)
-£8 a month subscription is required for the cameras to record and save any footage. This service has been flawless for me, but it's just another subscription I've now got

I fitted this alarm three days ago, and have found it to be very straightforward to use, and easy to fit. I purchased it from Amazon with a £90 discount, making it a bargain in my opinion. I would have paid the full price, but would have had to wait until later this year. I bought the basic kit for now, and intend to add more motion sensors and contact sensors later.

In setting up the alarm, the base station is set up first. I had issues here. There were two options for setting up the alarm base, and I tried both options but neither worked. After multiple attempts I decided to contact the Ring helpdesk. The advisor was extremely helpful and talked me through the stages. The stages were exactly what I had done previously but this time worked immediately! (That is always embarrasing!) The advisor emailed me so if I had any more issues I would be able to contact him for advice, and it is a good job he did.

I expected fitting the contact sensor to be awkward as the frame of the door is close to the wall, but more than the maximum inch. I tried it before fitting and it actually fitted fine and worked with no hassle. The range extender was a doddle to fit. Plug it in, the app soon found it. The motion detector appeared to be just as straightforward, until it the test to ensure it was working. I tested it as requested but when exiting the test mode the app told me it could not communicate with the app. I tried re-testing it, but that didn't help. I attempted to remove the motion sensor from the app but was told it could not communicate with the sensor. I tried removing the batteries to re-set it, but when I put them back in the app said it was still in test mode and when trying to exit test mode it said it could not exit test mode as there was no communication.

Having had no success to come out of test mode I emailed the advisor. He made a couple of suggestions, all of which I had done. The sensor is working, according to the app it is detecting motion, but it is stuck in test mode. I am going to have to replace that sensor when I have a bit of spare cash. Disappointing, but hopefully I will have more look with others.

Once set up the alarm is easy to use. Each user has their own code for the key pad, but equally the alarm can be set from the app on the smart zone. Exit/entrance delays can be set if the keypad is utilised to set the alarm, so the user can leave the house before the alarm is active. The keypad is re-chargeable, and the alarm base station can survive for 24 hours with no mains power, which is handy if you need to change the location.

This is a very easy to install, easy to use, and is highly recommended. The issues were minor, and bar the motion sensor easily rectified. Once I have tried a new motion sensor I will update the review.

04/01/2022 Update to review

I have re-tried setting the motion sensor up. On this occasion I was able to remove the motion sensor from the app, and re-install. Upon re-installation it worked prefectly and exited the test mode at the first time of asking. This is an excellent, inexpensive alarm system, that I can add to as time goes on. A basic set up to begin with, that secures the house. Further motion detectors and contact sensors can be added later.

Another product that I give a ‘solid’ 5 Star Rating. To make this review easier to read, I’ll bullet point my reasons:

* Extremely easy to set up, as each item has a barcode

* You can adjust the settings on each device separately.

* You can arm the device with either the keypad or your phone.

*. You can add further devices quickly and easily, to suit your requirement(s).

* Alerts come directly to your phone whilst you are away.

I could go on and on and on listing the positives and I’m yet to see any negatives, hence my high rating.
