Awful narrator

I loved the first book, I had a hard copy.
I travel a lot for work so thought I’d try the 2nd book on audible.
I found the narration by the author terrible.
Too fast, too monotone, no breaks between sentences.
Many of the characters have the same voice so it’s difficult to know who’s talking.
I thought I’d get used to it so tried to listen to the 3rd book. I was wrong, so I’ll be returning it and buying the hard copy instead.
Sorry Richard, I love your stories but please pay an actor to narrate these 😳

Weak plot, too much ecclesiastical history and practice

This is the weakest Canon Clement book. The plot is weak and the interminable monastic detail boring even to fervent churchgoers. The treatment of Neil is quite unrealistic and Daniel is almost priggish by the end. It seems like the author had a contract to fulfil but no inspiration… sad falling off after the first two books

The story was narrated by the author. He has an easy listening voice. On the whole, the narration was good, but there were times when it wasn't clear which character was speaking. Otherwise I would have awarded 5 stars. I was hooked from start to finish and couldn't stop listening. I can imagine that listeners not interested in religious issues and how monasteries work might find it tedious. The plot was well constructed with an appropriately staged denouement. The author's use of language is wonderful (keep a dictionary handy.) The story contains references to a wealth of interesting information that could be followed up, but doesn't detract from the basic plot. The story focuses on relationships and reflection so fast moving drama should not be expected. There is some sexual content, but it isn't graphic or gratuitous, but pertinent to the plot in a number of ways. The wit is laugh out loud glorious. I loved it so much I think I will read the book.
